Warzone stuttering with 6900 XT

Hey everyone!

I've got this problem (which I can see in this forum that a lot of others are also dealing with) with stuttering in COD Warzone.
These are my specs:

Ryzen 9 5900x
MSI x570 Tomahawk
XFX Speedster Merc 6900 XT 16GB Black V2
32GB 3600mhz CL 14 ram
2x1TB m.2 drives
850W Corsair power supply.

I'm playing on 1440p 240hz monitor.

When I got the card I wasn't experiencing as much stuttering as I am now. This only happens when I play the big map Caldera. It's especially noticeable in the beginnings of every match.
I usually get above 200-230 FPS in most areas of the map, but some I get 170 (Fields). The stuttering really kills the enjoyment of the game. I've read and heard from several other people that they are experiencing the same issues. Is this just an AMD problem or is it the games fault. I've played other games that doesn't have this issue.

I've tried both overclocking and underclocking. Underclocking helped a little bit, but didn't get rid of the issue.
I've done a fresh install of windows and tried older GPU drivers (using DDU)
I've tried disabling SAM to see if that was the cause, but no.
I've tried changing the values in the game files like the Renderworkercount and the Videomemoryscale. That does help boost my general FPS, but it doesn't get rid of the stuttering. Currently I am using: Renderworkercount = 6 and Videomemoryscale = 1.2. I've tried lowering the VMS, but that only made the stuttering worse in some cases.
I've tried increasing the render resolution in-game from 100 to 110, 120, 130, 140, 150 and so on to see if that helped. I've read that it has solved it for others, but in my case I only get a lower FPS and keep stuttering.
I can't even list all the things I've tried changing to get this solved...

Please AMD, get this sorted. This might be the last AMD card I'm ever going to buy. I've never spent this much time trying to solve such a stupid issue with any other GPU.

Try deleting every KBM drivers from device manager and reboot to see if that makes any difference.

Also, make sure you are also using the ultimate performance power plan available instead of high/balanced.

I've also heard that the audio setting can cause stutters, but I cannot 100% confirm that.

Thanks for the input.

I've already got the power plan set to ultimate performance. I tried uninstalling the KBM drivers but that didn't work, neither did changing the audio settings/profile...

This is giving me a headache.

Same issue here, micro stutter on that map. Completely fine on rebirth. My fps stays around 170 but can feel the micro stutters but no frame drop. Odd it’s only that game. Gotta be some odd software issue with the map, I’ve tried a lot of quick fixes but nothing works. Map also feels very weird like shadows and textures popping in and out very noticeably. Would love to hear if someone has found a fix. I have a 5800x and a 6900xt reference card.

Hi,

I have 6800 xt and had microstutters in warzone for a long time, what helped was turning off overlay mode in each app running on your backround. E.g. discord has one, which was causing stutters in my case.  In general microstutters are mainly due to some other apps doing something interfering with your drivers.

If does not help, try to uninstall everything and then add apps one by one watching what causing it. If this does not help, try settings in amd drivers (disable every amd extra "features" they have implemented). If this does not help, send me your video settings in the game and in amd drivers I can compare it with mines...

I wrote in my post that I've already tried a fresh install of windows.
The first thing I did after the install was to try warzone. I only had my drivers installed and warzone. So no other app's should have been able to interfere with the game.

All the AMD features are disabled. The only thing I have enabled is SAM, which I've already tested being disabled/enabled.

I have no overlays enabled.

I will never buy an AMD GPU again. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a GPU.

It shouldn't be necessary to troubleshoot as much as I have. I just tried my friends 3070ti in my system and it ran butter smooth, with lower FPS though. I'd rather have 180-200 fps where it's consistent and smooth than 200-240 with stuttering and constant frame drops.

It might be the games fault, but since team green is able to run smoothly, why can't team red? My friend told me that AMD has a history of bad drivers and he thinks it's their fault, not the game. If it was the game, then all cards should run like mine.

I've joined a Discord server for troubleshooting AMD GPU's and everyone in there says that it's a problem on AMD's end. So please, FIX THIS.

I didn't think I had to rewrite for this, but these problems have not gone away yet. I have a full AMD system (5800x - 6800 XT Founder Edition - 32 GB RAM - SSD NVMe - 850 Gold Plus PSU - B550 Motherboard - 280mm Liquid Cooler and 6 Fans in total in the mid tower case, including the 280 AIO fans - Benq XL2546 240 hz monitor)  -Some time ago, I wrote about stuttering problems in this post: https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/radeon-6900xt-5950x-microstutters-mainly-in-cod-warzon.... At the time, on high settings, the game was truly unplayable, stuttering issues everywhere. On Verdansk, I managed to solve the problem by completely lowering the graphics settings to the minimum or almost. Since the launch of Caldera, it has been impossible for me to play even just one game without stuttering. I am not talking precisely about massive stuttering, but microstuttering, like framelag. The gaming experience is horrendous, despite I'm not experiencing fps drops and any other problems. I have tried many other games and the problem does not occur, in these the frametime graph is linear and the performances are excellent, as expected. I have tried everything, from the CMOS reset to a complete clean install following the solution post, as reported, in fact, in that post mentioned by me above. I tried to change my 6800 XT founder with another 6800 XT, always founder, however the exact same problem occurs. Months and almost a year have passed and the problem persists. My only two solutions were to change hardware, selling the PC at a higher price so I wasn't loosing any more money looking at the market and the other one was to quit Caldera. I had to choose the second one because I hate the marketing policy that the other AMD competitor is implementing and for this made the decision to not buy one of their video cards, although it would mean solving this problem (Also I dont care about the performance of Ray tracing this year, AMD right now is superior in competitive games in terms of performance and numbers, if you push the hardware to the max).

I don't think it's a driver problem that depends only and exclusively on AMD. I've been playing COD for a long time and for this, I was able to directly contact Activision's specialist support. It seems that there is no communication between them and AMD, probably, the game suffers from this problem only on some video cards from AMD, not all. As written before, I tried two 6800 XT founders and the exact same thing happens, although with RTSS there is no problem with numbers. This, in fact, proves that other games run perfectly. Probably the engine that Warzone is currently using doesn't work well with some AMD video cards, especially on the latest Radeon 6000. I don't think AMD or Activision, whatever it depends on, will solve this problem. The solutions are to rely on another brand or wait for the new engine to come out.
I believe that @Matt_AMD also knows that there are problems with the game, but if it does not depend on AMD and if Activision has no intention of solving the problem or if, at worst, it was apparently unsolvable, due to the many integrations of these 2 years, you have to change if you don't want to wait for the new engine. AMD this year has shown how much they care about gamers, however it is a disappointment to see how these problems occur, which, perhaps, do not depend precisely on them, but on how the game was written in the absence of tests, Warzone is known for have a lot of bugs due to these lacks.

Yeah I'll be sticking with my 6900 XT until Warzone 2/MW2 is released on the new game engine. I really hope that will fix the problems that so many of us are dealing with playing this game...
If the problem persists then I'll be jumping back on the green wagon again.

Are you receiving any stuttering in rebirth? The very odd thing is that I only stutter in caldera. Everything else is fine. The maps textures and shadows also act very odd for me in my case. I can very easily notice textures and shadows load in.

Only Caldera. As I wrote earlier, it appears to be an engine issue that only affects the latest AMD video cards.

I actually tested modern warfare multiplayer and had a touch of it in there also but not anywhere close to what it was in caldera. I wouldn’t of probably even noticed it if I was playing the game just trying to look for the stutter. Rebirth butter smooth tho. Really wish they could get it sorted out cause warzone was my favorite game to play lol, I’ll settle for rebirth for mean time I guess.

Yeah Rebirth has no stutters for me what so ever. Just weird why Caldera runs so poorly then. Might just be a size issue, but with 16GB of VRAM that shouldn't be a problem. Like the 3070ti that I tried only had 8GB but was running smooth as butter compared to my card... I just don't get it

Guys,

as I wrote previously, I had microstutters in warzone like a year ago, but after disabling overlays in discord and disabling GPu accelaration in discord as well I am running warzone (Caldera and Island both) without microstutters. And I have to stress I am ultra fu..ing sensitive to microstutters, seing them even if other people not...So your problems must be (if not software issues) connected in other hardware you are running with 6900xt. It seems like your combination of RAM, Motherboard, CPU hit the red zone in your cases. E.g I am running my 6800xt (liquid devil version) with 5900X, 32GB Trident gskill 3600, Gigabyte x570S and gen3 M2 SSD, 1000watt seasonic.

Anyway, try whats in this video, it helped me to elimanate BSODs which I had quite frequently. This solves issues, by instaling only drivers, without Adrenaline, which causing crashes.

https://youtu.be/PtIh1fnuNoE

I would be very greatfull if AMD engeneers would investigate why Adrenaline software is causing BSOD (look how many people posted positive solving in comments of this video). I had BSOD almost a year, since I bought 6800xt with all the drivers since then....

Nice to see more people after me experiences issues with Caldera

First of all, few monthz ago when caldera was released I experienced some microsutters (also in verdansk sometimes but not that many). I checked some youtube videos, people said that i've to check warzone adv_options and set renderercount to 12 and put videomemoryscale to 0.45 (because of the high amount of vram 16G amd 6900 xt). But unfortunately this did not give the desired result..

I tried several amd drivers, reinstalled my OS and Warzone installation, without any success.. I bought an 3080 ti from nvidia and the result was good, no microsutters anymore, but my prefer is amd so i sold that card because it can be that my graphics card is defect?? So i ordered msi gaming trio z 6900 xt. After installing this card I immediately check in warzone if the microstutters are gone, and nope they still exist which mean amd really has something to fix

In caldera and rebirth my fps goes from 240 to 120-100 fps, it drop that much what result in stutters. I tried to set my render in options to 4k (200% instead of 100% 1080p) and i've to say the micro stutters have become much less, but they are still there.

Like i said, 3080 ti it works perfect so for me it seems an amd issue, i see alot of users which experiences the same (see reddit or amd forum)

My setup:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
MSI TRIO Z 6900 XT (and 6900 XT from AMD drop)
G.SKILL 3600 MHZ CL14RMx850W psu
Windows 10

its def. and amd issue just google it internet is flooded with it have no idea what is wrong for me it is just unplayable when i had rtx 2080 i had 0 issues and tbh i regret not keeping rtx card now becouse im stuck playing apex legends caldera is just not playable with constant stutters already searching for rtx card tbh if i can sell this card of course

Hey guys, having the same issue on an alder lake 6800xt system. Thought i might throw my hat in the ring on this one, issue is present only on  caldera  (halo infinite has similar issue but that needs further exploration). MP for MW and CW seem to work flawlessly aswell as rebirth island. Have tried all mentioned fixes, some fixes help but not entirely resolve the issue.

At this point i too believe there is possibly an issue with the map and optimization specifically with how the game utilizes vram. Something i found which did help my stutter to the point where gameplay was possible was bringing down my ram oc 3900 cl14 to 3600 cl16 and bringng down my ring bus oc from 4.8ghz to 4.0. This brought 1% lows within 25% of average fps. This in line with rebirth performance (see screenshots, 2 is rebirth 1 is caldera with similar 1% to average fps ratio 3 is caldera but with bad stutter ) but this also cost me 40fps on average which for such a high end card is unacceptable.

In the video linked Click to see video  you can see that while running on the road all metrics are decent (no real stutter) than when transitioning to flight you can clearly see framerate becomes unstable and 1% lows take a big hit (stutter) (240hz display btw, also you cant see stutter in vid becuase 60fps recording ). Some users on lower refresh monitors (144hz) may not percieve this as 1% lows are still pretty much at refresh rate. Also, I seem to experience the stutter the worst when pulling chute and flying through trees and when moving around built up areas. Hence why i believe it is a vram issue as it feel like the game has just called up alot of game assets and cant handle it. Anyway,  at this point i may buy a 3080 and possibly do some in depth testing between the 2 cards. @Matt_AMD

PS sorry for terrible grammar and punctuation.

I am not so sure if it is a VRAM problem. In my case, this problem occurs even at the lowest possible settings, which consume very little VRAM. In my opinion, there is an even more difficult problem to understand, at least for the user who simply buys the video card. What you can easily guess is that it isn't a problem that, in fact, one person can solve in some way and doesn't even depend on how you configure your system, you can not do anything about it.

Sad, but i agree. Also, when i say vram i mean bandwidth related not so much how much total vram is consumed. Wasnt clear on that, sorry.

About the VRAM, I understood what you meant. Despite this, I think this is another issue and I could still be wrong.

guyz im daily tagging ravensoftwere and radeon rx on twitter u have to be loud about this everywhere if u have twitter pls do same as me im still searching for rtx 3080 to replace this 6800xt but **bleep** bro one of the most played game on market and it stutters like hell just not acaptable

@Matt_AMD is already working on this. He said he'll come back to us when he gets some information from the engineering team.

In the meantime we'll just have to wait and test for our selves

Yes we are looking at it folks don't worry, appreciate your patience for now.

i have a 6900xt and the micro stutter is making the game unplayable in warzone to the point that it is giving me a headache. first time with an amd gpu think i may have to rma it and get a 3080ti

I have a 5700xt and I'm in the same boat, tried everything, possible, different windows 10 versions, windows 11, full drivers, naked drivers, OC/UV GPU settings, Stock and CO CPU settings, clean installs with only the nescessary to run warzone, all different video settings imaginable in game, all combinations in the adv_options.ini file, different Mobo bios, different Ram Sticks, DOCP and Stock, different mouses and keyboards with and without drivers, different monitors... I mean everything I cloud try I did.. and no fix, the problem only happens in the Caldera Map, BR or any other installment of it.. it doesn't happens in Rebirth, and in Verdansk it did happened when I had Textures set to anything higher than Low.. I have a old GTX 970 card that I tested and the problem is gone. I hope AMD can come up with a fix, this is driving me insane..

What spec is your pc ? info can help Matt.

Btw with additional testing setting render scale to 150% pretty much completely fixes the issue. Believe the issue is related to gpu utilization. Utilization goes between 70% and  90% when scale is set to 100%. With no stutter when gpu passes 90+ utilization.  Hence why render scale helps alot as when set to 150% the gpu is pegged at arounf 96%. (attempt to increase scale until afterburner shows consistent utilization. looking for other to comfirm with their own test please)

I tried 150% and then slowly went up to 200% render scaling and I didnt get any stutters at 200% and my gpu utilisation didnt jump around. But I dont wanna scale it to 4k and have my gpu at 90°C long term, especially when I just bought a new card.

specs:

Amd ryzen 7 5800x

Amd Powercolor 6800xt red devil

Gigabyte B550 Aorus elite ax v2

32gb ram

850w power supply

I agree, not a long term solution. Nice to see some consitency on this minor fix tho.

I can confirm for me also setting render resolution to 150% fixed the issue. Now the stutter is very minimal, still there every now and then but hardly noticeable.

hi everyone... i am also having stuttering in caldera only... gpu is 6800xt, cpu 5800x...but can i ask you how much vram are u using? i play on low settings and vram usage is 15700mb.. is that normal?

Ensure you set video scale in MW ini file to 0.7. The should help with bringing down vram usage. Im on all low and with 0.7 set i hit around 7 gigs.

Hey mate, what specs are you running? Also what monitor do you use? if your monitor has a low montion blur tech are you using it ? cheers

@Reiko1705

I've already tried an advanced bootup of windows where no apps runs besides the windows services. It did not help.

Looks like folks are facing some serious issues.

jhonmartin692 Are you here to give helpful input on this "serious issue"? If not, then please stop commenting.

Using my buddy’s 3080 in my rig in place of my 6900xt had no stuttering affect, this seems to be a amd gpu issue.

Hey Guys, i have tried everthing. Enhanced Sync on + Free sync on + Vsync off this combination helped me with the stuttering.
