RX 5700 XT and 20.3.1 - more crashes

I've noticed quite a bit of system crashes since 20.3.1, seems to crash the system at least once a day  (frozen screen, rapidly repeating sound and then restart). Has anyone else noticed more frequent crashes since this new driver?

Yes - seeing more crashes on 20.3.1. I've noticed the manual fan tuning goes out of whack, GPU fan drops to 0 RPM, and my PC crashes shortly thereafter. Running RX590 GPU, Ryzen 7 3700X CPU w/32GB of RAM, ASUS ROG Strix X570-E motherboard. 20.3.1 is definitely causing stability issues. The crashes happen when the system is sitting idle (not during gaming - gaming seems fine, until the system is idle for awhile, that's when the crashes occur - difficult to replicate but they do happen consistently).

I've also noticed other instabilities, in some games the screen will go black or the game will get minimized and then the sound won't work. This driver is a mess.

At least you can get to your desktop.  As soon as I tried to install 20.3.1, it installed, and as soon as AMD Radeon Software tries to load my monitors go black and all my fans jump to max, and that's it.  Same with a reboot, I put in my password, go to the desktop for a few seconds, until AMD Radeon software tries to load, and black screens again.  At least I keep system restore points.  If it matter, I'm using an AsRock B450 Gaming K4 Mobo, Teamgroup ddr4 at 3000mhz, a Ryzen 2600,  and an XFX Rx570 8GB,  all new parts, just built this thing a couple months ago.  I can't believe they can't even get Polaris card drivers right.  Have no problems with the 20.2 series drivers, wanted to update for Doom Eternal, but I guess thats out.  Anyway, maybe if I hit enough of these posts, someone at AMD will see this.  Here is the relevant event logs.

After 20.3.1 I get tons of crashes when I play games!

Yup, I think I'm going to revert back to 20.2.2. I wonder if they are all shut down right now, we might not see a new driver for a while.

Yeah, happens to me also.

I just changed my graphics card earlier this week. I went from an RX570 to an RX5700XT.

Standard upgrade procedure: DDU, drivers update, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, SFC /SCANNOW...

I didn't have a single problem with the previous card. I now have the same problems as shown here. Brief black screen (completely random), or complete crash.

Most of the time, I don't have any problems in game. On the other hand, crashes always happen as soon as I use my webcam!

I don't know if it's related but I can see that the UVD clock goes up to maximum just before the crash. If I stop the webcam in time, the crash doesn't happen but the UVD clock stays at maximum. Once I launch a video on youtube, for example, the UVD clock goes back down!

Was there a more stable driver version?

Same with my Vega 56, so it's not just Navi. Radeonsoftware.exe crashing a lot since the last driver.

Hello guys,

Same problem for me, Just replaced my rx 380 with the RX 5700 XT OC...

As eloge2lafuite I did the normal procedure to install the graphic card , used DDU , install new drivers...

When I play at heroes of the storm the game is giving me a black screen, go back to Windows and few seconds after it goes back into the game...

After that I can get a blackscreen again and this time radeonsoftware crash and the game too...

I can't play with this card.. I tryed the old drivers 19.8.1  8.2,... and it's the same eachtime.

I tryed to install the old version without radeon software… I worked one day but with a small difference, I got only a small freeze. (The difference between the full crash and the small freeze is that the game recover the "screen".

After that I need to kill the game and the amd driver.

If I want to go in the driver configuration I have a white box….

If I put back my old graphic card it's working perfectly...

What can we do?

Experiencing very similar problems with 5700 XT and 20.5.1 driver version.

Desktop works fine.

DCS World works fine.

Doom Eternal goes black screen after 5-20m of gameplay.
