My computer won't boot at all when the RX 480 8GB is plugged in and has power connection. The fans are running, but nothing else happens. When the PC's power button is pressed, it turns off immediately.

I expect the motherboard to cause this problem since it doesn't support UEFI and I'm also not sure if it is capable of delivering enough power over the PCI-E slot.

I'm not completely sure, though.

Old drivers are uninstalled, latest Radeon drivers are installed. Screen is connected via HDMI. Onboard graphics work when RX 480 is unpplugged.

System configuration:

- Intel Core i5-2310 2.9 GHz

- Pegatron 2AB6 mainboard (BIOS version 7.14 - latest is 7.15, so BIOS-update probably wouldn't help)

- PSU: FSP HEXA+ 500W- 8GB RAM

- SanDisk 120 GB SSD

- 1TB HDD

- Win10 Home x64

Isn't there a legacy/UEFI switch on the 480?

You mean on the graphics card itself? If that should be the case, I never heard of anything like that.

Yeah, it should be there, if they didn't remove it on the RX 480s.

My 380X has a tiny little switch on top of it, about if it is UEFI or not.

It was defaulted to non-UEFI, and I had to manually flip it to UEFI to support UEFI boot.

If your card has it, then it is the opposite (you need to flip it to non-UEFI).

My card is a Sapphire, but the switch was identical.

I can't find any switch. I guess it is very unlikely to be hidden somewhere below the radiators cover and costumers would have to remove it first.

Looks like a compatibility issue with your Motherboard, which is an older PCI-E 2.0 board. This will likely require a Motherboard bios update to support the 480.

I'm having a similar problem. I uninstalled my old card drivers (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti) and installed the new software that came with the card and when I turned on the system. It powers on with fans on the card and the system running but, nothing displays on the screen.

My system specs are:


Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 10586)

Lenovo Cip67m Ideacentre K330 Lga 1155 Desktop System Motherboard (I believe. Might be wrong.)

System Model: IdeaCentre K330
LENOVO BIOS Rev: 1.0
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 12288MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti

650W power supply.

Same issue here. Except I know for a fact my motherboard is PCI-E 3.0 compatible. Still, the BIOS is from 2012. Unsure if it's completely safe to update the BIOS, heard lots of horror stories.

Your 2012 BIOS is BIOS or UEFI?
