Hello everyone

I have an Acer Aspire X3470 computer.  It has an A6-3600 APU with HD 6530D (+6450) graphics, with HDMI and VGA.  I bought a new monitor, namely a Philips 272B8QJEB/00 which has a native resolution of 1440x2560.  However, neither Windows's screen monitor settings nor the Catalyst Control Centre allow me to select any resolution higher than 1080x1920.  (In addition, text at this resolution looks a bit blurry.)

As far as I can tell, based on the specifications, I should be able to get 1440x2560, but I don't.  Do you have any idea what might be wrong, or can you confirm what my maximum resolution would be, or what else I could try to increase the resolution to 1440x2560?

You didn't mention what version of Windows you have installed. If you have Windows 8/8.1 then this is the last AMD supported driver for your APU: A6-3600 with Radeon™ HD 6530D Drivers & Support | AMD

If you have Windows 10 installed than you need to have Windows Update install the correct driver for your APU: Windows® 10 Driver for APUs Supporting up to WDDM 1.2 and DirectX® 11 | AMD

Set the PC’s display resolution to the same mode as monitor’s recommended screen native resolution.

Try this method from your Monitor;s manual and see if it works:

Q1: When I install my monitor what should I do if the screen shows 'Cannot display this video mode'? Ans.: Recommended resolution for this monitor: 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz. •

Unplug all cables, then connect your PC to the monitor that you used previously. •

In the Windows Start Menu, select Settings/Control Panel. In the Control Panel Window, select the Display icon. Inside the Display Control Panel, select the 'Settings' tab. Under the setting tab, in box 25 8.Troubleshooting & FAQs labelled 'desktop area', move the sidebar to 2560 x 1440 pixels. •

Open 'Advanced Properties' and set the Refresh Rate to 60 Hz, then click OK. •

Restart your computer and repeat step 2 and 3 to verify that your PC is set at 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz. •

Shut down your computer, disconnect your old monitor and reconnect your Philips LCD monitor. •

Turn on your monitor and then turn on your PC.

Just FYI: I have an ACER Monitor connected via HDMI and the highest resolution I can get is 1080 x 1920 even though Windows recommends 1440 x 2560. I can get the Native Resolution using Displayport and not HDMI.

When I try to have Windows run 1440 x 2560, I get a black screen for a few seconds and then it returns automatically back to 1080 x 1920. Found out my Monitor doesn't support Native Resolution with HDMI.

1. I have Windows 7 HP 64-bit.

2. I'm not trying to fix the blurry text.  The blurry text is the result of the incorrect resolution.

3. The screen does not display "Cannot display this video mode".  This is not the problem I'm having.

4. Your instructions state "move the sidebar to 2560 x 1440 pixels" but that option is not available.  The highest that was available at the time that I asked the question was 1920x1080.  In the mean time, there was an update, and now the highest available is 1440x1280, but that doesn't help me.

5. My graphics card only has VGA and HDMI.  There is no Displayport connection available on my video card.
