Hardware Acceleration GPU driver question

Hey guys,

I just downloaded a driver from back in June with Hardware Acceleration, but the driver I had before was more up-to-date (I think from last month). Do you know if updating my driver in the future with normal (non-HWS driver), remove the hardware acceleration of this one?

The driver I downloaded is 20.5.1 HWS

The one I had before was Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.9.1 Recommended (WHQL), File Size 429MB, Release Date 9/16/2020

Specs: W10Home64bit

5600XT

Ryzen 5 2500

GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO Wi-Fi

16GB RAM

2TB SSD

Thanks!

Yes, that "Hardware Acceleration" is only with this (20.5.1) driver. Any other driver is without it, and it will be removed in case of update

The option is missing in System -> Display -> Graphics Settings with Adrenalin 2020 20.11.2 drivers installed.

In summary it looks like it was only in the 2.5.1. Beta Driver, but not enabled by default in subsequent released drivers.

I have not looked in detail at the original 20.5.1 Beta Driver but it may be the case that there is a windows registry variable that needs to be enabled.

Based on my previous experience, it might be the case that it can be enabled in the current drivers using such a windows registry variable. I do not know and I have not checked.

For example the AMD Vanguard Beta Testers may be working on it:

I refuse to get involved because it requires signing an NDA.
I also prefer giving feedback from "outside the tent" rather from the inside.

It might be supported in the new Adrenalin 2021 driver launch which will likely be timed for around the RX6900XT Flagship RDNA2 GPU.

Perhaps @Matt_AMD or @Ray_AMD  might be able to give you an update?

Thats all I can do.
Thanks.
