Freesync not supported?? Dell S2719DGF with AMD R9 280

I have a Radeon R9 280, everything I've seen online says freesync is supported. I'm using a mini-Displayport to Displayport cable that was able to support 4k@60hz on another monitor. Why does the AMD settings page for the display say "Freesync not supported"??

To reiterate, this displayport cable supported on of my old monitors at 4k@60hz, so I don't think there is any issue with the Displayport cable. Should I try an HDMI cable? Would prefer to not have to return this monitor as I do really like it.

This shows that the R9 270/X and the R9 280/X do not support Freesync.

I wonder if it's because those may be reissues of older cards.

Yes, they were rebrands of the HD 7000 series (southern Islands).
