Freesync doesn't work on Ubuntu, RX 580

Hello,

I have several problems with my fresh Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS install. MSI AMD Radeon RX 580 / AOC Gaming G2460PF 24" / AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, Amdgpu-pro drivers.

FreeSync doesn't work, the first command shows nothing about FreeSync:

$ DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --prop

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384

DisplayPort-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 531mm x 299mm

Also there is a strong tearing, especially in Chrome when scrolling. This problem has higher priority, but I've also tried this on Kubuntu 18.04 beta, and scrolling in Chrome is much better there comparing with 16.04 so I can use the beta LTS version of Ubuntu, but still some problems exist (e.g. scrolling the askubuntu.com background makes eyes cry), FreeSync doesn't work there either and DOTA2 cannot use the Vulkan driver.

There are many lines of "Fail to enable freesync mode." in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

What can I do? The hardware is supported (I use a FreeSync compatible monitor via DP with the RX 580 videocard), the operating system is also old and stable. Thank you!

You are far more likely to find answers to your issues in the Ubuntu support forums. Linux distro communities typically support their users best. Someone may answer you here too, just recommend you ask your question there so you don't have to wait long getting an answer. I can tell you that there are many unresolved FreeSync issues on the Windows side too. These forums are not AMD support staff they are users just like you helping each other. If you would like to open a support ticket with AMD you may do that here: Email Form
