Display freezing when using dual monitors

Hi there,

I have found an issue with the RX480 graphics card, recently I have not been able to use dual monitors as the display freezes briefly before continuing. This is a very annoying glitch, as it means both screens freeze and my mouse will jump, or in games it will freeze before jumping along.

I have tried reinstalling the AMD Software, I have done a clean install of the drivers, removed the files from my device and re added them. I have re-seated my graphics card and RAM. Unfortunately I don't know where to go from here.

Both displays function perfectly on their own, but when the displays are used in either Duplicate or Extend modes that is when I run into the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am running a 16:9 HP monitor, a 4:3 Dell monitor and I was able to run these perfectly for months. I have an i5 Skylake, RX480 and 8GB of RAM. I have disabled onboard graphics.

I have the same problem with my RX470.

It started with one of the Adrenalin Edition drivers. Don't remember the exact one. Every time I would plug in my TV per HDMI to use dual screen, windows would start to freeze for a second periodically. It was enough to only have the TV on standby to get this error. So if the graphics card gets any 'communication/contact' over the HDMI, the freezes will happen. It only stops when I unplug the HDMI cable or turn off the TV completely.

So I tried different older drivers until I got to the 17.5.2 version which worked for a while. Since some Win10 updates, this is no longer the case.

The only workaround I have so far is to uninstall all AMD drivers, reboot and let Win10 update get the graphics card drivers. For me, it's 17.1.1 and it works fine with two monitors. I have had no issues with any games I've played regarding the older driver.

I guess, that since one of the windows updates screwed the use of the 17.5.2 driver too, Win10 is one part of the problem...

try comment #146 there

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS
Laptop: R5 2500U @30W + RX 560X (1400MHz/1500MHz) + 16G DDR4-2400CL16 + 120Hz 3ms FS

Thanks, disabling HDCP worked for me!

I went to Display in the Radeon Setting. Selected my TV, which is connected via HDMI, and clicked on 'Specs'.

Even though it said Disabled under 'Current HDCP Status' you need to go to 'Override' and select to disable 'HDCP Support' and restart.

After that, the freezes disappeared.

glad i could help
