Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Origins CRASH FIX - RX 580 4GB and possibly other GPUs

How to stop AC Odyssey and AC Origins from crashing on Radeon Sapphire PULSE RX 580 4GB (Sapphire PULSE RX 580 4 GB Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database) and possibly other Radeon GPUs:

AC Odyssey

1. DL & use AMD Cleanup Utility to remove all the drivers that are currently installed (when asked to do it in safe mode - accept)
1.1 Link to Utility: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601

2. DL & install Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.2.3 driver
2.1 Link to driver: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-21-2-3

3. Open AMD Radeon Software by right clicking on the desktop and then left clicking on it (see image AMD 1)

AMD 1AMD 1
3.1 Open Performance tab, then select Tuning tab, then switch Tuning control to Manual, then Enable GPU Tuning, then finally set MaxFrequency(%) value to -8 and click on Apply Changes (see image AMD 2)

AMD 2AMD 2
That should stop the crashes.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR OTHER GPUs: Step 3 above represents GPU underclocking. Why are we doing it? For some reason, AMD boosted default GPU clocks on some cards, changing their base clock to boost clock ie. overclocking them, and some games just don't put up with that and crash. Therefore, the solution is to underclock your GPU to it's base clock.

MaxFrequency(%) controls the clocks of your GPU. The value you should set may be different for your GPU because the clocks differ from GPU to GPU. In my case, the base clock for my card is 1257, and boost clock is 1366 (Sapphire PULSE RX 580 4 GB Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database). Setting MaxFrequency(%) value to -8 underclocked my card to it's base clock. That combined with Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.2.3 driver stopped the crashes I was experiencing.

To find out current clocks of your GPU follow step 3.1 but instead of changing the value of MaxFrequency(%), Enable Advanced Control (see image AMD 3).

Then, find your GPU on GPU Database | TechPowerUp and check it's base and boost clocks. Compare them to your current State 7 (Max) clock under Advanced Control. If State 7 (Max) doesn't match the base clock, which should be the cause of the crashes, Disable Advanced Control, change MaxFrequency(%) value, and then Enable Advanced Control again to check on changes that made to the clocks. Repeat the process until State 7 (Max) matches the base clock of your card.

AC Origins

1. DL & use AMD Cleanup Utility to remove all the drivers that are currently installed (when asked to do it in safe mode - accept)
1.1 Link to Utility: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601

2. DL & install Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.2.3 driver
2.1 Link to driver: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-21-2-3

No further steps should be required. If the problem persists, try step 3 from AC Odyssey fix.

Hope I helped. Happy gaming!
