Re: 5700xt Crashing

Jump to solution

I have the PowerColor 5700 XT.  I get random crashed, PC just reboots back to login.  I think its a problem with the driver and how it handles PCI-E 3.0 since this is not happening on PCI=E 4.0 boards.  My board is AsRcok B450 ITX Fatality.  Someone also posted that if they resintall the drivers and do no touch the virtual resolution settings they experience no issues.

Well, my solution has failed - I crashed last night when playing LoL (when it exits the game to desktop). Computer restarted on its own and had no traces of an issue in event log. I have now reformatted my drives and reinstalled windows, since I already Mflashed my board I skipped that step.

This time I did the following:

*UNPLUGGED ETHERNET CABLE*

Installed windows

*RESTART*
Installed chipset driver from AMD (NOT THE MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET DRIVER - this might have been the issue?)

*RESTART*

*Enabled XMP1 in BIOS*

Installed installed C++ (2010, then 2015, then 2017+)

*RESTART*

Installed Adrenaline (GPU driver)

*RESTART*

*Reconnect Ethernet cable*

So far so good... but well see if anything happens in the next 24 hours

Also, here is my AMD tech support reply - supposedly they arent aware of an issue....... ... ...

Thank you for the email

I understand you are experiencing GPU crash on your computer with AMD Radeon RX 5700XT graphic card.

You have already tried clean installation of drivers using DDU tool.

No, we have not received any reports about the issue from other users. However, I will forward your issue to relevant team for further investigation.

Meanwhile, I request you to stick with the current setup and wait for future drivers and check the status.

Thank you for contacting AMD.

No, I have not crashed at idle - only when in games/alt tabbing out

I've experienced 2 types:

1) GPU only crashes but I can hear in game sounds and can still move around
2) Entire system locks up and restarts

So nothing should work if it isn’t in fact the driver

motherboard: Asus X470-F Gaming with the lastest bios version

memory: Micron Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-3200MHz * 2

cpu: Ryzen 7 2700x

monitor: BenQ EW2775H + BenQ GW2470

operation system: Windows 10 pro version 1809 build 17763.615

I can play lots of steam games, including 3D FPS normally. Only crash when playing Apex Legends about 30 minutes or less.

When the crash happens, I still can hear voice from discord channel, move mouse cursor, open apps, folders, browsers, but  all of them were no response.

I will  try to fresh install of Win10 1903, maybe it will work fine...

I hope this is just the 19.7.1 driver version bug, and AMD will fix it asap!

Update: I did end up crashing again in LoL which rebooted itself – I have now reformatted my drives and reinstalled windows. I made sure to download the CHIPSET drivers from AMD and installed those first and foremost while ignoring the MSI version. So far so good played lots of games and no crashes or artifacting.

did that too, eventually its going to happen. If you check your event log you will see system errors on the PCI-E
