480x link failure error message

I have just recently bought an Asus 480x and a Samsung C27FG70 monitor supporting 144hz and freesync. When I use a displayport cable and activate DP 1.2 in the monitor menu I get the following error message bu the Radeon software "The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer".

Now the first thing that comes to my mind is the cable. Have been trying about 5 or 6 different displayport cables of different lenghts...still get the same error message. When I use a HDMI cable, which only support 120hz on the monitor, I don't get the error message anymore. Is this a problem in the software?

I'm running Windows 10 64 bit and have the latest drivers installed...

Please help!

Re: 480x link failure error message

It seems I managed to solve the problem myself. The issue is driver/software related. Reinstalled Windows, which preinstalled an older version of the Radeon software. The issue is gone for now. Will do some more testing to see if it holds up :)

Re: 480x link failure error message

I was also able to solve this problem by setting my monitor's displayport to 1.1. The monitor, a 27" Samsung CFG73, could now be set to 144hz. However, DP1.1 disables the Freesync feature. I am using a Radeon RX480 4gb card.

I solved my problem by trying a non-Samsung displayport 1.4 cable. The cable instantly solved the problem. The cable I used was a Cable Matters DP1.4 cable purchased from Amazon.

Re: 480x link failure error message

Actually, it turns out that was a mistake. My DP1.2 setting still defaults to 60Hz despite the cable.
