Microsoft Teams Screen Share Crash - RX 7800XT

I have a Ryzen 5700X in an ROG B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi II with G.SKILL TridentZ NEO 2x16GB 3600MHZ CL16.

Displays: LG UltraGear 34GN850P-B at 144hz and a small DELL 24'' 60hz.

Microsoft Teams crashes the moment I try to screen share with 24.2.1 or 24.1.1 drivers. Only stable with 23.12.1 drivers.

Event Viewer error:

It seems like something's wrong with amdh264enc64.dll with Microsoft Teams (new version, not classic).

Bumping for visibility... Is AMD aware?

current graphics drivers have this as fixed:

During Microsoft Teams meetings, the camera may intermittently display looped footage on some AMD Products, such as the AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U Processor.

Yep, that's why I tried to run the new drivers but unfortunately, it crashes when screen sharing. Only 23.12.1 works.

I just wanted to give this issue some visibility so AMD can hopefully fix it.

I have a similar issue with Google Meet in Google Chrome, when I try to screen share a page that is busy with graphics (whiteboard) I experience a black blink and then it's nearly impossible to load that page as every attempt will cause black blink

Hello,

I would like to comment so that this post gains visibility as well.

What you describe is exactly what I have been experiencing for the past 2-3 weeks. Unable to share my screen on Microsoft Teams (new) without my application crashing (after only a few minutes).

RX 7800 XT (Sapphire Nitro+)
Drivers tried: 23.11.1, 23.12.1, 24.1.1, 24.2.1 (DDU and even complete PC reformatting)

Monitors: 3x 24" (1920x1080), via DisplayPort daisy chain (MST)

The most stable for me was 23.11.1, but I had desktop crashes with Helldivers 2 with 23.11.1. Now with 24.2.1, Helldivers 2 is more stable. Microsoft Teams has started crashing again but no PC restarts for graphic driver failure.

I hope AMD will fix it. Very frustrating!

Yep, I have both screens in DisplayPort and the only stable drivers (for me) are 23.12.1.

Same thing with HELLDIVERS 2 though. I wanted the game to be more stable so I upped to 24.2.1 but now I can't share my screen or any window in Microsoft Teams (new). Really upsetting.

I'm getting the same problem with RX 7800 XT Sapphire Nitro +.

I've managed to fix this issue when reinstalling Teams completely + clearing all cache.

However the fix lasts from 2-3 days max, then I'll have to reinstall again.

Please fix this as it's a big nuisance.

Got the exact same issue.

Sapphire RX 7800 XT, latest drivers (24.2.1, but also tried with 24.1.1), LG 27UL500 @60Hz.

Every time I share my screen using Teams (new) after a few minutes Teams itself crashes along with the graphic driver.

I've only managed to share my screen using the web app from within the browser.

Same issue on Sapphire RX 7900 XTX. Running 24.2.1 version.

Teams crashes less than a minute into screen sharing, same faulting module too:

Faulting module name: amdh264enc64.dll

Hopefully we'll get an answer soon that this has been recognized as a bug in the newer drivers. Although I don't see much official AMD personnel activity around this forum lately.

Giving an update: Drivers 24.3.1 seem to have solved the issue. I will continue testing.

will be testing also today. Updated the drivers.

You say you continue testing but it is already marked as a solution i see..

Hi @marinaurs,

I tested it extensively yesterday and it no longer crashes, so I've marked it as a solution. Please test and let me know.

Im having the same crash problem when I share screen in M.Teams. Never has this problem until now.

The problem is not solved, In mi case, is the first time with the latest driver update.

I'm on 24.5.1. The driver doesn't crash while sharing screen on Teams as long as my monitors are set to 60hz.

However, one of my monitors is 240hz, and if i set it to that, it consistently crashes the driver while sharing screen.

This is still not fixed...

I just wanted to update here that despite of the updates to the drivers till version 24.5.1 I continue having this issue with Teams.

This is extremely annoying as i need to use my laptop every time instead when i have a teams call. Does anybody knows what can be done to stop this misery?

I’ve still got the same problem too. It’s really frustrating. No driver seems to fix it.

The only way I can share my screen is to join a Teams meeting via the web browser and share from that session. I use 2 sessions (windows app and web browser) at the same meeting since I cannot blur my background with the web based app. Still, really annoying.

Booo. This issue is back with 24.5.1.

Can't share screen in Microsoft Teams. This is very limiting when it is so critical for work. You can use the webapp instead and that will bypass the issue but the webapp does not support a full feature set, including break out rooms. A must in my work!

It seems as though this issue has been bought back with the latest drivers. Bumping for visibility.

I am having the same issue with my 7900XTX.  I have been having it ever since Microsoft introduced new teams.  I do have a working work around.

1: create a VM, and install teams in it

2:  join your meeting on your PC.

3:  Go to Your VM and open teams; there should be an option to join the meeting.  Choose Join and "Add this device." Make sure the sound and mic are muted on it, and boom.  you are sharing your screen in the VM.
