What are the best powers supplies for the money?

I'm trying to build a PC and don't know how much wattage I need yet, but I want your opinion on the best power supplies for the money.

Re: What are the best powers supplies for the money?

I personally tend to stay with Seasonic or FSP. Both of these companies do not farm out their power supply production which means you know exactly what you are getting. Most of the other "named" brands do not actually make a PSU, they buy from an OEM and rebadge. The problem is over the years we have had incidents where these brands have changed OEMs during the production and the quality of the PSU has suffered.

Corsair will have the best value, as they only use top tier manufacturers, namely Seasonic and FSP.

I've got a Crossfire motherboard and want to know if it's worth getting a Crossfire ready power supply.

Unless you are going to game at UHD or above, you don't need Crossfire.

What hardware are you going to be using? Happy to make a Power Supply recommendation based on that information.

Re: What are the best powers supplies for the money?

I plan on using:

  • an 8-core AM3+ CPU
  • 4 Crossfire video cards (minimum an AMD Radeon HD.6870)
  • 8 GB DDR3 RAM (up to 32 GB)

I want to know what is the advantage of a Crossfire ready power supply. Please see my related thread Opinion on Crossfire graphics please.

The Fury X is FOUR TIMES as powerful as the HD 6870, and as I said you don't need Crossfire unless you are gaming at UHD or above. There is no "advantage" to a "Crossfire Ready" power supply, as it just means it has 4 PCIe plugs.

Unless you plan to buy a second in the future, when UUHD is out.

PSUs today last a very long time. You cant add but only spend more to upgrade what you could have brought in the first place.
