Seems like a recent Windows Update for the October 2018 Windows breaks anyone using Intel Audio drivers: https://www.onmsft.com/news/windows-10s-october-2018-update-brings-audio-issues-microsoft-explains-t...
Microsoft’s latest major update for Windows 10 has been plagued with problem after problem, from deletion of files during the update process, to UWP apps not being able to access an internet connection, and the list goes on.
Reports are now coming in across Reddit and Twitter of users experiencing issues with their audio devices, as detailed below, in which the audio device doesn’t play audio.
Hey, @Microsoft …I just updated Windows 10 with the newest update that came out, and I now apparently have no audio. Is there a way to get the audio back? (I really need audio on my laptop, and my dad and I aren't sure how to fix it ourselves…)

Microsoft has come out and commented on the reported issues, blaming an update pushed out via Windows Update for Intel Audio Controller. The affected driver version is 9.21.0.3755. Microsoft recommends uninstalling the driver, the company has published a guide on how to uninstall the update here.
