AMD drivers for Win 10 & AMD cards supporting DX12

Each of these questions have come up...so in one location:

Q: What AMD Radeon™ GPUs or AMD APUs will be compatible with DirectX® 12?

A: When paired with a DirectX® 12-ready graphics driver, the following GPUs will be compatible with DirectX® 12:  AMD Radeon™ R9 Series graphics,  AMD Radeon™ R7 Series graphics,  AMD Radeon™ R5 240 graphics,  AMD Radeon™ HD 8000 Series graphics for OEM systems (HD 8570 and up),  AMD Radeon™ HD 8000M Series graphics for notebooks,  AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 Series graphics (HD 7730 and up), AMD Radeon™ HD 7000M Series graphics for notebooks (HD 7730M and up), AMD A4/A6/A8/A10-7000 Series APUs (codenamed “Kaveri”), AMD A6/A8/A10 PRO-7000 Series APUs (codenamed “Kaveri”), AMD E1/A4/A10 Micro-6000 Series APUs (codenamed “Mullins”), AMD E1/E2/A4/A6/A8-6000 Series APUs (codenamed “Beema”)

Q: Which AMD products are supported in the Windows® 10 technical preview?

A: All AMD processors are compatible with the Windows® 10 technical preview. In addition, all DirectX® 9-compatible (or higher) accelerated processing units and AMD Radeon™ graphics cards are supported in the Windows® 10 technical preview. Specific legacy products (e.g., AMD Radeon™ HD 4000 series) may require use of drivers provided by Microsoft® through Windows Update with their Windows® 10 installation.

Q: Which graphics driver should I use for my AMD Radeon™ GPU or AMD APU?

A: Microsoft has indicated that updated device drivers are not required at this time, as existing device drivers are compatible with the Windows® 10 technical preview. AMD Radeon™ graphics and accelerated processing unit customers should use the latest available drivers from Windows Update until official Windows 10 driver support is posted on amd.com at a later date.

In other words, for the Preview version of Windows 10, you should use the drivers furnished by Microsoft for that version of the Preview. The Microsoft drivers do not have the full functionality that a AMD driver gives. When Windows 10 is finalized and released to the public, AMD will have the drivers for it.

And...Microsoft did not say "Your drivers are not compatible".

AMD Radeon™ graphics and accelerated processing unit customers should use the latest available drivers from Windows Update until official Windows 10 driver support is posted on amd.com at a later date.

Thanks...I just wish more people would read it rather than posting "Microsoft says my drivers aren't compatible" over and over again.

This proactive thread will serve the AMD community incredibly well over the next few months. It's well written and displays quite a bit of forward thinking in it's creation, good job once again.

Thank you for confirm,  I just doubt because mostly news/media said that AMD just support GCN card . .

HD 5000 is VLIW5, HD 6000 is VLIW4, HD 7000/8000 is GCN 1.0, and the R series is a mix of GCN 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2.

Re: AMD drivers for Win 10 & AMD cards supporting DX12

Not exactly true: there are low-end HD7/8000 cards/chips based on VLIW4/5: The 7/8xxxD and 7/8xxxG, and the 83/84xx OEM models. I would find it very surprising if DX12 support would arrive for them.

Re: AMD drivers for Win 10 & AMD cards supporting DX12

They're not, because if they were then the HD 6900 series would be getting it as well, but there's still going to be a few hundred threads on here with people with HP, Compaq, Dell, and other prefab computers with the OEM HD 7000 VLIW4 cards who are going to complain.
