5600 XT Low Usage

I bought a 5600 xt 1 month ago. In GTA V, when I play with ultra settings, it uses %80-%99 and I get 110 FPS on a specific place. But if I play with the lowest settings, at the same specific place, it uses %40-%60 and I get max 100 fps. Is this a general problem or is it just me getting this problem?

I have Ryzen 7 2700x, 3200MHz (2x8)gb.
I only overclocked my fans.

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

Are you playing at 1080p?

It's probably a cpu limitation or bottleneck. 100~110 fps is what you gonna get with this cpu at the current configuration (you can alleviate the limitation by overclocking it) no matter the graphic settings you choose in these specific places. Just crank everything up to put more load on the gpu, 100 fps is not bad.

Note: the cpu doesn't need to be at 100% for a bottleneck to exist.

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

Yes I'm playing at 1080p. I know 100 FPS is not bad. I watched a benchmark, same settings (low settings), same place. He gets 185-190 FPS, I get 120-140 FPS at 0:30. He has Ryzen 5 3600 but i don't think that there would be a 40 FPS difference between my CPU and his CPU. Maybe it's normal, I don't know that much, but it seems not normal to me.

Note: He has 32 GB RAM but there is not much difference between 16GB and 32GB, right?

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

I see. GTAV launched on pc in 2015, a time when, I believe, quad cores were the norm for games, a lot of people were gaming on systems with core i5s with just 4c/4t and with i7s with 4c/8t. My guess is that the game's engine doesn't scale well with many threads so your 2700x is not getting proper utilized and perhaps the 3600 is seeing better results due to the improvements in IPC.

Before dx12, I remember people saying that making games on dx11 with proper multithreading was a very laborious and time consuming process, and usually you would see one core being hammered while the others were underutilized.

How is your cpu and gpu utilization, at this same scene on the video, compared to his ?

Yeah, i don't think 32gb vs 16gb would matter for GTA V.

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

40fps in this scenario could be possible with Zen+ vs Zen2 - especially if your game also is allowed to run on SMT-Cores too

1. download NotCPUCores from github
2. run GTA V on "physical cores" only with "normal" priority

PC: R7 2700X @4.1GHz + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS
Laptop: R5 2500U @30W + RX 560X (1400MHz/1500MHz) + 16G DDR4-2400CL16 + 120Hz 3ms FS

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

gta 5 fps (2).png

There is %10-%20 difference on GPU and %5-%10 difference on CPU.

By the way 40 FPS difference was about my RAMs. I had 2133 MHz and bought these 3200MHz ones 1 week ago. I forgot to change the MHz in the BIOs settings. Now I changed it and the difference went down to 20 FPS. Now, I've started to think that 20 FPS difference is normal because of that thread thing. Is this normal or not?

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

well but i see 160fps in both - that is alot

maybe the game engine cant handle much more...

but some people have similar problems like you - maybe you should go to amd.com/report and send the driver devs a note ;)

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

mh,

1. go to graphics settings
2. scroll down to advanced
3. add game to list
4. set game to "high performance"

test again ;)

Re: 5600 XT Low Usage

Which graphic settings? I couldn't find "advanced" or a list in GTA V graphic settings, and I don't see any graphic settings on NotCPUCores.
