@mariadwyer it is very important to use the correct pad thickness.
Using thicker pads on the VRAMs could cause contact issues on the GPU die/thermal paste.
Which would then lead to overheating and the paste might not have contact to the entire GPU die.
Your best bet are the teardown videos on YouTube. Just stick to the name and model of your card.
I have had bad luck myself with contacting support - they most likely will just state to not disassemble the card yourself.
I did replace the pads and paste on my own ASRock RX 5700 XT without problems. But with no help from support.
