Missing Freesync on AMD laptop

I have an Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC with the following:
RX 580
Ryzen 5 1600
Windows 10 (latest)
16 GB RAM
...
Basically, each and every one of the 2020 Adrenaline drivers kills my Freesync support. The Software will flag it as "not recognized" even though every update pre-2020 adrenaline works fine. Last full working drivers are 19.12.1 (1y+ old). Of course, Asus has 2 year old drivers (chipset + GPU) on the product support page. I have tried every possible combination with DDU/AMD cleanup utility to install fresh AMD drivers. Or install AMD drivers after Asus 800MB chipset/GPU drivers from the support page.
Nothing will recognize that the laptop panel supports freesync.

Anyone has any idea if the 2021 drivers will change anything? I've read somewhere that the 2020 Adrenaline drivers remove the Freesync support from the Registry. Basically, there is an entry in 19.12.1 that looks pretty much like a word that would be flagged as 1 on Freesync. That's missing in all 2020 drivers. I only remember it vaguely.
