Forcing options through the driver control panel doesn't work?

I am writing this post because i've never seen this problem discussed or mentioned anywhere.

In the last 15 years i owned multiple graphics cards from both AMD and NVIDIA and i still have the corresponding systems up and running to test things with. Since I bought my current system after last chrismas i noticed something that buggs me. I can't seem to force any graphical options through the Radeon Software. I tried V-Sync, Morphological AA, MSAA, SSAA and AF but none of them seem to do anything. First I thought: "Okay, the current driver might be a little buggy." and so I tried the older 19.12.1 pre 2020 version. No change. Then I tried it on my older RX 590 system. No luck there as well. I then also tried my R9 390X and my very old 6970 on the 15.7.1 drivers. But it doesn't seems to work on any of them. I'm very puzzled by this and want to hear your experiences with the feature. Do they work for you? I'm sad because on my NVIDIA systems I use the feature to force AF and AA to for example GTA IV or Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005).

My test systems for overview:

System 1 (primary):
-Ryzen 9 3950X
-32GB (2x16GB) 3600CL16
-Radeon RX 5700 XT
-ASrock X570 Taichi

System 2:
-A12-9800
-16GB (2x8GB) 2400CL15
-Radeon RX 590
-Asus X370 Prime A

System 3:
-FX-8370
-16GB (2x8GB) 1866CL9
-Radeon R9 390X
-Asus 970 Pro Gaming Aura

System 4:
-Phenom II X6 1100T
-8GB (2x4GB) 1600CL9
-Radeon HD 6970
-Asus Crosshair V Formula Z

Control System:
-Intel Core i7-6950X
-64GB (4x16GB) 2400CL12
-GeForce GTX 1080
-Asus X99 Strix

Games i tested if forcing options works:
-Counter-Strike
-Counter-Strike: Source
-Battlefield 2
-Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)
-Grand Theft Auto 4
-Crysis
-TrackMania: United Forever
-Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Doesn't this feature work for you as well? I'm a little bit at a loss and I have no ideas left.

Re: Forcing options through the driver control panel doesn't work?

These are the settings i used:

-Select Standard as main profile on the first startup

-Cogwheel -> Display:
FreeSync - On
Virtual Super Resolution - On
Pixel Format - Full RGB

-Cogwheel -> General:
Sampling rate - 0.5 sec
Ingame Overlay - Disabled
Upgrade Advisor - Disabled
Advertisements - Disabled
Language - Set from German to English as I am on a german windows installation and some text in german does still overflow boxes.

-Gaming -> Counter-Strike: Source:
Wait for Vertical Refresh - Always On
Anti-Aliasing - Override application settings
Anti-Aliasing Level - 8X
Anti-Aliasing Method - Multisampling
Anisotropic Filtering - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering Level - 16x
Texture Filtering Quality - High
Surface Format Optimisation - Disabled

-Gaming -> Grand Theft Auto IV:
Morphological Anti-Aliasing - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering Level - 16x
Texture Filtering Quality - High
Surface Format Optimisation - Disabled

-Gaming -> Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)
Wait for Vertical Refresh - Always On
Anti-Aliasing - Override application settings
Anti-Aliasing Level - 8X
Anti-Aliasing Method - Multisampling
Morphological Anti-Aliasing - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering Level - 16x
Texture Filtering Quality - High
Surface Format Optimisation - Disabled

-Gaming -> Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Morphological Anti-Aliasing - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering Level - 16x
Texture Filtering Quality - High
Surface Format Optimisation - Disabled

Windows 10 Pro 1909 build 18363.752 - 64-Bit
AMD Radeon Software 20.4.1
AMD Chipset Software 2.04.04.111
Windows Game Mode - Active

The setting I'm most interested in getting it to work is the morpholocial Anti-Aliasing in Bad Company 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV as both have no or very little AA integrated in them (the AA option in BF:BC2 only seems to treat some edges and not all). I would also like to use the MLAA so clean up some other games additionally to what they offer ingame.

EDIT: I managed to get it working with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with the following settings:
Anti-Aliasing - Enhance application settings
Morphological Anti-Aliasing - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering - Enabled
Anisotropic Filtering Level - 16x
Texture Filtering Quality - High
Surface Format Optimisation - Disabled
+ I had to enable the " Disable fullscreen optimizations " flag in the compatibility options of the BFBC2Game.exe

No luck with the other games sadly with these settings.

See if this AMD Radeon Settings guide helps you: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/dh-012

Re: Forcing options through the driver control panel doesn't work?

Hey,

I discussed the problem here: https://community.amd.com/thread/249584

Some more people reported similar problems there. I filed a bug ticket about two driver revisions ago - it seems that no one really cares at amd, since most modern games have their own built in control settings and not many people play older games that don't. Therefore the problem is not 'popular' and probably will never be solved.

Personally I use my PC for many oldschool games. None of them seem to accept Adrenalin 2020 settings (AA, AF, vsync override).

Current drivers are even supposed to not offer such options 'by design' for any games other than DX9 games - but this also seem not to be true (I cannot force anisotropic filtering in DX9 game - TES IV Oblivion).

I don't understand why newer products have features being removed - things worked fine in my older RX 570 with previous drivers (now I have RX5600XT and cant revert to any pre 2020 drivers).

What I can recommend is to go green team with the next upgrade.
