Error 182 - Revisited

Hello AMD Community,

I am seeing a number of people running into issues with Error 182 on some of the older cards, such as, but not limited to:

R7 260, R9 260, R9 270, R9 280, R9 285 (and respective x-series cards)
R7 360, R7 370, R9 380, R9 390 (and respective x-series cards)

The people run into issues with this is because AMD rebranded the the cards into meaninglessness. Here is the list based on the actual GPU cores, in no specific order:

Bonaire XT [Radeon HD 7790/8770 / R7 360 / R9 260/360 OEM]
Curacao PRO [Radeon R7 370 / R9 270/370 OEM]
Curacao XT / Trinidad XT [Radeon R7 370 / R9 270X/370X]
Hawaii PRO [Radeon R9 290/390]
Hawaii XT / Grenada XT [Radeon R9 290X/390X]
Pitcairn PRO [Radeon HD 7850 / R7 265 / R9 270 1024SP]
Tahiti PRO [Radeon HD 7950/8950 OEM / R9 280]
Tahiti XT [Radeon HD 7970/8970 OEM / R9 280X]
Tonga PRO [Radeon R9 285/380]
Tonga XT / Amethyst XT [Radeon R9 380X / R9 M295X]

The AMD Radeon R9 270 (Pitcairn PRO) does not use the same driver as the AMD Radeon R9 270 (Curacao PRO) but both have the same name on the box & device manager. . . The support website does not know this though. You just select the GPU name and it assumes which card you have.

Device Hunt is a great place to verify which GPU you have based on hardware IDs within Device Manager. Highly recommend for actually figuring out what GPU you are using if you are having issues with driver installation.

I would love to know who thought these product names were a good idea. I can only wish you guys much luck.

Thanks,
WSV

PS: Made a video with my rant.
