BSOD thread stuck in device driver, R7 360, Win 10

Hi all,

My graphics card

GIGABYTE GV-R736OC-2GD

AMD Radeon™ R7 360 GPU,  2GB GDDR5 ,  Memory Bus 128 bit,  Card Bus PCI-E 3.0,  Digital max resolution 4096 X 2160,  DirectX 12,  OpenGL 4.5, Card size H=34 L=146 W=112 mm

It was working fine up to Windows 7 x64. It worked in Windows 10 x64 couple of years back with random blank screen and reboot then windows error that graphics has recovered from some serious issue. and slowly it started giving bsod thread stuck in driver. and finally a permanent bsod. same in Windows 11 x64.

On a Win 10 x64 machine  when first inserting the card, it just works with Microsoft basic display driver. The moment I install AMD driver on restart it gives BSOD with Error "Thread Stuck in Device Driver".  Same error keeps cycling on every reboot and I never reach to log in screen.

I have to boot win in safe mode then I have to delete AMD driver using DDU util and on next reboot it boots with Microsoft basic driver.

I have tried many things but no success

  • Tried latest adrenalin driver for Win 10,  gave same error BSOD
  • Tried driver from original vendor site Gigabyte for my card. same error
  • Tried old catalyst driver in same machine "AMD-Catalyst-15.7.1-Win10-64bit" No success
  • Tried driver from windows update catalog: AMD Radeon(TM) R7 360 Series Ver 22.19.162.4 Win10x64  same Error
  • Tried above win10 driver on a fresh win 11 installation, same bluescreen error
  • Tried my card in another machine fresh win10 x64 installation. with integrated intel graphics. Same error
  • Treid SFC scan system files check but no benefit
  • Tried all possibles that i could

conclusion:

There is some driver mismatch from AMD starting from Win 10 for this card

It never worked on Win 10 x64 and above. the moment I install AMD driver, BSOD

so what is the solution. I have two choices now:

  1. Throw away this card as there is compatibility issue in amd driver which amd is not going to fix
  2. Use my card only in Windows 7 x64. (not acceptable for me at least)I have googled net for graphics card with my bsod error it seems there are plenty of cases for such driver compatibility issues which AMD is not even giving a thought about. I tried solutions from there too. all failed.

I believe it is an old breed so AMD is not going to do anything for this issue. your expertise required.

I have decided if this card does not work in win 10 win 11  then this will be my last AMD card. I will throw away it and switch to other solutions
