amdgpu MES firmware binary file

Dear AMD Community!

I would like to ask what are MES firmware files? What are they for and where can I access the navi10_mes.bin firmware file for example?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Linux Firmware is where there is firmware located to run hardware on your computer.

The meaning of Linux Firmware:

Linux firmware is a package distributed alongside the Linux kernel that contains firmware binary blobs necessary for partial or full functionality of certain hardware devices.Jul 28, 2022

Since MES Firmware is part of the AMDGPU Driver it involves firmware updates for certain AMD GPU cards that are not included in the regular Linux Kernel.

You can ask at one of the best Linux Website Phoronix: AMD Linux - Phoronix Forums

This article about AMD Radeon Firmware in Linux is from here: https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-New-Firmware-Blobs-IP

I am not familiar with Linux OS so I suggest you ask at Phoronix Forums which will be a good place to start to get your answers.

Googling what MES Firmware files are it seems you have Linux OS installed, Correct?

Can you post your PC information and Linux OS version?

Found this Ubuntu Forum thread concerning, I believe, the same problem you are having with NAV-10 GPU cards: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1315776/missing-firmware-navi10-mes-bin-for-module-amdg

You can get most firmware files from the upstream linux-firmware repository:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/

This person also maintains a GitHub repository of firmware which AMD have made available via ROCm and the proprietary driver, but not uploaded to linux-firmware yet:

https://github.com/Umio-Yasuno/unofficial-amdgpu-firmware-repo

However, the file navi_10.mes does not exist in either of these.

We can see this is a genuinely used firmware file with Linux Kernel commit:

I checked driver amdgpu-pro-20.50-1234664-ubuntu-20.04 which contains amdgpu-dkms-firmware_5.9.10.69-1234664_all which doesn't have the file either.

It seems this file is not publicly available at this time?

NOTE: Since I  copied the answer all the links in the reply works if interested.

I also read these, but the navi10_mes.bin file is nowhere to be found. What is the MES firmware for? What does this stand for?
