A9-9820 APU

Sorry to distract, but I need help with the recently announced Sea Islands architecture and gpu Kryptos. Why since March this year there is no information about drivers or products based on the mysterious APU A9-9820. But motherboards remotely resembling it are found on sale and ordered by some 3d party companies. Is it possible to find a working driver from AMD themselves for the APU A9-9820? Thanks a lot for any information.

Re: A9-9820 APU

I  answered this question on the other thread that you translated for me from Russian.

Seems like this is a UNRELEASED APU thus it has no official AMD Drivers to download from AMD Download page.

You will need to get drivers from the OEM of your motherboard or Laptop until AMD officially releases this new APU to the public.

Open a AMD Service Request (Official AMD SUPPORT) and asked them when this new APU will be released to the Public and supported by AMD with drivers from here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form

This tech website explains better about this new APU that is EMBEDDED on motherboards and in laptops: https://sajjadhussain-11869.medium.com/amd-a9-9820-apu-is-quietly-released-integrated-into-the-mothe...

Tom's Hardware also explains about this new APU: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-motherboard-a9-9820-xbox-one-s-performance

A nameless motherboard with the A9-9820 APU (via @momomo_us) has emerged on AliExpress with a $125.30 price tag. It is believed that the A9-9820, which comes with Radeon R7 350 graphics, and should offer similar performance to that of Microsoft's Xbox One S console.

The A9-9820 is a real processor, but you won't find it anywhere on AMD's database. The model name insinuates that the chip belongs to AMD's 7th Generation A-Series family of APUs. The APU appears to come with an eight-core, 16-thread configuration and a boost clock speed of 2.35 GHz. The AliExpress sellers claims that the A9-9820's performance is comparable to the Core i5-7400. On the graphics end, the A9-9820 reportedly sports the Radeon R7 350 unit that brings 512 shaders clocking up to 935 MHz.

Chuwi, a popular computer manufacturer in China, uses the same A9-9820 APU in the brand's AeroBox mini-PC. A representative from the Chinese company has gone on record as stating that the AeroBox uses a similar motherboard that's inside the Xbox One S. The statement spurred speculations that the A9-9820 could be faulty dies that don't meet requirements for the Xbox One S. As a result, the APU could perform close to what you can expect from the gaming console.

The merchant alleges that Biostar is the manufacturer of the motherboard, and that it adheres to the CEB form factor. For reference, the ATX form factor comes in at 12 x 9.6 inches (305 x 244mm), while CEB measures 12 x 10.5 inches (305 x 267mm). That means the motherboard is just a bit wider than that we're normally accustomed to.

Re: A9-9820 APU

From the Tom's Hardware article I was able to find the OEM Chuwi Support page where you can open a "Chat" session with them and find out what Drivers they have for the A9-9820 APU: https://www.chuwi.com/support.html

Basically the A9-9820 is the XBOX One S processor and Chuwi's AeroBox MiniPC motherboard is similar to the XBOX ONE S Console.

As mentioned, this processor was not released to the public and possibly may be inferior to the XBOX ONE S processors or/and were rejects by AMD for the XBOX ONE S consoles and which AMD then sold the processors to OEM manufacturer. Just guessing though.
