Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

Maybe it is best to just use version 18.2.2 unless version 18.2.3 has a fix that 18.2.2 had a known issue with and is affecting your computer. I would just wait until AMD updates the 18.2.3 driver again to a newer version and at the same time make sure MSI Afterburner has the latest version installed.

Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

I mainly use Afterburner for :

-Minimalist interface with useful interface tooltips about what each setting is doing

-Monitoring for : each core of the CPU (usage/temperature/frequency) , the entire's CPU power usage , GPU (usage/temperature/power usage/voltages)  ,  RAM usage and PSU voltages , all of these with graphs and min/max values ; + 100ms hardware pooling period & unified GPU usage monitoring for better accuracy

-Overclocking

-Custom fan curves with percentage based fan speed , fan update period control in milliseconds ; +temperature hysteresis to remove unwanted fan fluctuations

-Highly customizable OSD when using Afterburner + RivaTuner that is letting me to see some statistics (which are updated at a 100ms interval) , when gaming , about : framerate , frametimes , cpu usage , cpu temp , cpu frequency , cpu power usage , gpu usage , gpu temperature , gpu power usage , gpu voltages , ram usage , psu voltages , and Afterburner even allows you to display the system time on the OSD

-Taking PNG (lossless) screenshots inside a game

-Doing Benchmarks

-Recording gameplay footage

TLDR;

Wattman + Performance Metrics are only providing me 1/3 of the useful features of Afterburner (+Rivatuner for OSD) , and since i didn't encountered any conflict between these 3rd party apps and AMD's drivers , i am not planning to remove them any soon.

Conclusion : If you are just trying to convince me to give up on Afterburner , you'd be better wasting your time with anyone else.

Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

Agreed . For now i will keep using 18.2.2 , and in the future if Afterburner will still refuse to launch at the Windows startup when having newer Radeon drivers installed , i'll just keep opening it manually , since it's not a big deal .

Also i'll check daily to make sure if there are any Afterburner updates available , since it may be a bug caused by the app as well.

Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

Try creating a Task Schedule for MSI Afterburner to start during Login. That will be basically the same as starting it manually, instead Windows will start it for you during Login. Might want to check it to run with Admin Rights when creating the Scheduled Task.

Once you create the Task, reinstall the 18.2.3 and restart your computer and see if MSI starts up. If not, delete the task and go back to version 18.2.2 .

I don't know if this would make any difference, but I would look at Autoruns to see if it can be started automatically. You have to run Autoruns as Administrator (rt click). If the MSI/Afterburner entry is there and has no checkmark in the box...this might fix the issue.

Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

Oh my god , thank you so damn much man !

I just did this using the Windows's Task Scheduler and it worked !

I also noted that there was already a task schedule for Afterburner , and it was set to do launch with the Windows , but i have no idea why with 18.2.3 it simply.... doesn't want to launch ? Hahahah , i guess it doesn't matter anymore if the initial schedule created by Afterburner works with 18.2.3 or not , since you just gave me the golden solution

Thanks you so much for your help again , and i wish you a sincerely great day/night !

Thank you for your response kingfish , i highly appreciate it !

For now , it looks like the solution given by elstaci worked , but if the issue will ever reappear I'll make sure to try Autoruns next time !

Re: 18.2.3 prevents MSI Afterburner from starting with Windows

cool good to see a good outcome out of this. Ideas are great good to see our community doing its job to help not like other communities which bring alot of hate & resentment. Once i get my stuff sorted going do some community help walkthroughs on Relive & maybe a troubleshoter to help any1 new or weird questions or things that can occur happen. Going do my stepsons soon with a R7360 2G i scored which i ran up the other night to eliminate any niggling issues i had my end. I will be doing a few runs & posting to suit older build hardware & newer to get an unbias run to give help as things i find along the way to help.
