Fall 2021 is shaping up to be a great season for PC gamers, with eagerly anticipated titles like Far Cry 6 and Halo: Infinite right around the corner, and of course Windows 11, the best Windows ever for gaming. AMD and Microsoft have collaborated in helping advance PC gaming with the latest iteration of Windows® 11.  New PCs featuring AMD Ryzen processors and AMD Radeon graphics deliver the full potential for Windows® 11 gaming through some key enhancements.

DirectX®12 Ultimate

Windows 11 was built for gamers, and will feature the core standard of DirectX®12 Ultimate to enable DirectX Raytracing, Variable Rate Shading, Sampler Feedback, and Mesh Shaders.

  • DirectX Raytracing adds a new level of graphics realism to games through effects like reflections, shadows, and global illumination at real-time frame rates
  • Variable Rate Shading designed to help boost performance by allowing games to intelligently prioritize the rendering power for the visual areas that matter most.
  • Sampler Feedback enable more realistic and immersive game worlds
  • Mesh Shaders enables games to efficiently render vast open worlds filled with high resolution textures

AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics are DirectX12 Ultimate compliant to ensure you are able to experience the next generation games of visually immersive games on Windows 11 as they were intended - LEARN MORE

DirectStorage

DirectStorage is the response to the evolving storage and IO landscape in PC gaming.

This new Windows 11 technology can help reduce load times and allow for virtual worlds that are more expansive and detailed than ever. DirectStorage is now supported on the latest AMD platforms and can leverage the latest PCIe® 4.0 NVMe drives and AMD Radeon graphics to bring your gaming experience to the next level.

  • Removes need to copy and decompress data on the CPU
  • Frees up CPU for other gaming tasks
  • Leverages superior decompression and bandwidth of GPU for both data streaming and quick load times

Auto HDR

Auto HDR allows SDR (standard dynamic range) games to run with HDR improvements on displays that feature HDR support, like your AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro display. Games that were not built for HDR will appear more vivid with extra details in shadows and highlights by enabling Auto HDR on Windows 11. There is a great article by Microsoft that I recommend reading for more information here: Auto HDR Preview for PC Available Today | DirectX Developer Blog (microsoft.com)
