Teradici Cloud Access Software now supports Amazon EC2 G4ad Instances, powered by  AMD Radeon™ PRO V520 GPUs, to deliver secure virtual Windows Workstations

We are delighted that Teradici Cloud Access Software (CAS), based on PCoIP technology, now supports the Amazon EC2 G4ad family of virtual machines.

Teradici was founded in 2004 and created a high-performance display protocol called PC-over-IP (PCoIP) for remote desktops and workstations. Solutions based off of the PCoIP protocol deliver the highest levels of security, responsiveness, and fidelity. Teradici’s CAS, which won an Engineering Emmy® from the Television Academy in 2020, powers secure remote solutions with unparalleled performance for even the most graphics-intensive applications. The solution is trusted by leading media companies, design houses, financial firms and government agencies and is deployed to more than 15 million users around the world.

In 2019, significant enhancements for the PCoIP protocol (PCoIP Ultra™) were announced  that continued Teridici’s position as a leader of protocol capability. A major re-architecture introduced support for Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) CPUs to SSE4 and AVX hardware and GPUs with a net resulting fourfold increase in pixel throughput. Bottlenecks were removed and scalability increased.

The capabilities of PCoIP Ultra leverage the AMD CPU and GPU hardware in the G4ad instances and is why support for this protocol is so important. CAS with PCoIP Ultra offers:

  • A high-definition and highly responsive user experience secured by Teradici using AES 256 encryption to meet the security standards required by governments and large enterprises proven and hardened in large scale usage.
  • A protocol designed for graphics-intensive workloads such as game development and media & entertainment or 3D/CAD applications.
  • CAS and PCoIP Ultra™ features including 1)  4K/UHD high-frame-rate content 2) Efficient scaling across multicore CPUs, leveraging AVX2 instruction sets 3)  Expanded multi-codec architecture for third-party codecs, including H.264/HEVC

G4ad instances powered by AMD Radeon PRO V520 GPU with CAS are ideal for remote graphical desktop and workstation support, offering:

  • Support for key Graphical APIs including DirectX 11/12, Vulkan 1.1, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.5 APIs critical to support many ISV applications
  • Operating systems: Windows Server 2016/2019, Amazon Linux 2, Ubuntu 18.04.3, and CentOS 7.7. With CentOS key for many key VFX applications.
  • Can be purchased as On-Demand, Savings Plan, Reserved Instances, or Spot Instances. Allowing OPEX and project-based budgeting and billing.

G4ad is available in three sizes

  • From G4ad.4xlarge, with 1 GPU (8GB Frame Buffer), to G4ad.16xlarge with 4 GPUs (32GB Frame Buffer), allowing right-sizing for use case and optimization of cost to performance needs. (see below)

The global COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated adoption of public cloud solutions, while the Media and Entertainment sector has generally been slower in cloud adoption, the need for employees to work remotely has forced studios, artists and developers to demand options fit for demanding VFX pipelines in the cloud.

In collaborating with Teradici, AMD is delighted to couple the strength of our CPU and GPU hardware with their expertise in remoting graphically demanding professional workflows - using G4ad instances in conjunction with Teradici CAS, customers can now create photo-realistic and high-resolution 3D content for movies, games, and AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality), with access to AMD Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise at no additional cost (Zero-cost licenses for professional drivers are included). Proprietary data and IP can remain safely controlled within AWS, whilst CAS streams the pixels to artists’ devices via an encrypted streaming session using the PCoIP protocol. Data security protections for downloading, sharing or accessing data are implemented by Teradici CAS to help comply with TPN protocols and security requirements enforced within physical studios.

With CAS offering a range of software clients including Windows, Linux, Android tablets and MacOS as well as thin and zero client options, G4ad instances can offer a wide range of remote, flexible and mobile work styles.
