Shared script folder OSX/Linux blender addons

Hi,

In my network I have a shared folder where all my blender scripts are. My OSX and Linux machines both point to that folder to get their scripts from. Since the addon folder "rprblender" can't be renamed and there are differences in multiple files, there is really no way to "combine" the addon or have them in separate folders.

Could you either make it possible to have the addon folder name renamable or maybe have 1 combined folder for all platforms?

Cheers,

Roel

Hey Roel.
So first off we have .dlls / .dylibs in there which are compiled programs... obviously a .dylib on macOS is not going to work on linux and vice-versy.  The macOS installer also doesn't have the linux .dlls.  However I suppose you COULD copy the dlls from one into the other to combine.

What is this about not being able to rename the folder though?  AFAIK the folders in blender's addon folder should be renamable.  Blender gets the name of the addon from the __init__.py file in each folder, so the name should be inconsequential.
