incorrect number of opencl platforms...

Hi,

I have a system with  phenom x4 CPU and 2xHD5970 cards.

In other threat (http://forums.amd.com/devforum/messageview.cfm?catid=390&threadid=134757&highlight_key=y) I found that in WinXP32 without crossfire enabled, I see 4 opencl platforms (1 CPU + 3 GPU) and if I disable crossfire, I see the correct number (1CPU + 4GPU).In linux x86_64 (OpenSuse 11.2) I see 1CPU + 4GPU with crossfire disabled.

Now I upgraded to SDK2.2 + cat10.7 update driver (the one in AtiStream SDK page). In WinXP32 without crossfire enabled, I see 1CPU + 3GPU as before, but if I enable crossfire; clinfo shows 6 platforms, 1CPU + 5GPU, cal findnumdevices shows 5 devices, and simplemultidevice -e tells me that CPU0 + GPU0 to GPU4 passed the tests.

Did someone see something similar? Has virtualization arrived? Thanks in advance for any insight about this.

This also happens with catalyst 10.9 WinXP32. Without crossfire I see 5 GPU; with crossfire enabled I see 6 GPU.

Please post your clInfo output in both the modes:Crossfire enabled and crossfire disabled.

Did you restart your system after installing SDK and drivers?

Video boards: 2x XFX HD5970 black edition (without overclocking)

OS: Windows XP 32 SP3

SDK: AtiStream 2.2 XP32

IDE: VisualStudio 2008 Team System

Drivers tested: catalyst 10.7b from ati sdk page & catalyst 10.9 from drivers download page.

Attached are the clinfo outputs; "with crossfire" means with crossfire enabled in CCC and with the ribbon cable from msi connecting both graphic boards. "without Crossfire" means with crossfire disabled in CCC and without the ribbon cable connecting both video boards.

May be silly but necessary to ask have you use driver sweeper after uninstalling previous driver if not just do clean installation with the proper use of driver sweeper.

I did a full reinstall and now I have the initial problem; I see 3 GPU + 1CPU witn cat10.9+SDK2.2 in WinXP32 with crossfire disabled; I am setting up a linux enviroment to see what happens in linux.

Thanks for the followup, now I have SDK2.2 + cat10.9 in windows XP 32 and linux 64 (OpenSuse11.2). In windows I see 3 GPU + 1 CPU, in linux I see 4 GPU + 1 CPU, both in opencl and cal, so I suspect a driver issue in windows, not an opencl issue.

By the way: in windows I can run 2 instances of my application at the same time, but only in devices [0] and [2], this happens without time penality. In linux I can run 4 of them, but with the time penality related in the serialization thread.

Yes, I still see 3 GPU in winXP32, and I agree that it seems to be a driver issue; in linux64 I can see and work with the 4 GPUs. In winXP32 Device Manager shows 4 devices of type "Ati Radeon HD 5900 Series"; ccc shows a primary adapter, an enabled adapter, and 2 disabled adapters. Thanks for the follow up.

A few questions for you.

Can you tell the mother board you are using?

It appears that this problem do not exist for 4870x2 and only exists for 5970 cards.
