Can not get 12.1 driver to work on my Radeon HD 5970 on debian 6 linux 3.2.0.
It says "Hasn't establisted DRM connection" ("established"?) and starts X but horribly slow, and openGL programs do not work.
What can be the problem here, and how to correctly install the driver then?
I installed amd.com binary driver 12.1 from amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run
removed old fglrx* packets, upgraded kernel (to debian stable with 3.2.0 kernel),
run the amd- installer, when it finished executed also aticonfig --initial (also with option for all cards later)
and (after reboots etc) the graphics works but horribly slow.
