Hi all,

I am looking to put a system togeter, I am looking to use a

Normally I would buy a board to use AMD cpu, but for a micro atx form factor, most boards don't have all the features I am looking for (ports and stuff).  Anyway, I would like to drop in a

Sapphire 4750x2 for GPGPU programming but use the onboard nvidia for video.  Does anyone forsee any problem?  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

1. The motherboard should work, however I think it won't be possible to install both ATI and nVidia driver to use onboard graphics.
2. 4850 x2 is a good card, but current Brook+ implementation won't take advantage of the second GPU unless running two different programs.
3. Many Brook+ applications are memory bound, single 4870 1GB card may perform better because of its faster DDR5

Is this still the case for the 4870 X2?

Yes. Why even bother with using the onboard chip for video? I would suggest driving the video with the X2. Doing simple 2D window rendering does not stress the GPGPU performance.

udeepta,

that's a very good point.  in doing some more research...i now even more strongly that nVidia's gpu is inferior to my AMD gpu.   Yes indeed.

Does the above apply to the 4870x2, and is it true with current beta and future releases?

Gerry,
The main problem with this approach is the fact that you need to have both drivers working at the same time and I am not sure that is possible.

Gerry, if you have to install both nvidia and ATI video drivers, there is a high probability that it will not work.

Micah,

That's very good news.  I question remain, if it can handle the 4870x2, will it (I would think it could), that is the sdk v1.4 be able to handle 4850x2?

Thanks,

Ben
