glut and GLEW in AMD APP SDK 2.3 ....

 

Hi, all:

First of all, my working enviroment: Ubuntu 10.10, video card ATI Mobility Radeon X1600.

I'm new to OpenCL and I'm testing the rendering sample "VolumeRendering_linux.zip" which can be downloaded from 

http://developer.amd.com/zones/openclzone/pages/openclappexamples.aspx 

I failed to make it work and always got the error message within code block

from file VolumeRendering.cpp .

 

That means "glewIsSupported" fails the testing. Now, my questions are:

 

1) I've got two versions of libglut.so and libGLEW.so. The first version is under /usr/local/ati-stream-sdk-v2.3-lnx32/lib/x86/...; the second version is under /usr/lib/... Since this OpenCL sample "VolumeRendering_linux.zip" is using OpenGL to render, I'm wondering which ones are to be used? libglut.so and libGLEW.so from /usr/lib? or libglut.so and libGLEW.so from /usr/local/ati-stream-sdk-v2.3-lnx32/lib/x86 ?

2) I checked my GL version, which seems to be telling I'm using GL 1.4 ? I'm not quite sure about this. See the attached code.

The laptop you are developing on does not have a new enough graphics card to support OpenCL. You need at least a device based on the R7XX series of chips.

well you can use CPU device if your CPU support SSE3.

you pass -device cpu into examples and they will use CPU device. and you pass CL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU into clCreateContext. see a OpenCL specifications.
