I am using the 15.7 Catalyst driver for Linux under 64 bit Debian Jessie. Trying to launch CodeXL 1.8 results in a crash with the following stack trace. The system houses two Fury X cards and is otherwise stable. Any ideas?

This is a bug in CodeXL caused by the fact that CodeXL is not able (probably due to mismatching with your linux distro) to create an OpenGL context.
The failure is supposed to pass silently, and the (non-existent) render context is accidentally accessed.
This is fixed in the upcoming CodeXL 1.9.
In the meanwhile, consider installing an OpenGL renderer (even a software renderer such as Mesa), which might work around this issue.

glxinfo |grep renderer shows both AMD Radeon (TM) R9 Fury Series entries. glxgears also runs fine, so it would appear I do have a successfully working OpenGL Renderer.
Are there any other ways to work around this issue?
Hmm, it's hard to tell what the problem is in this case, it could be with CodeXL's configuration or X11.
Is a CodeXL log file created in /tmp/ ? (It should be called CodeXL-<username>.log)
Could you attach it?
Also, if you could attach the output of glxinfo (without the grep), maybe it could tell us the problem.
I will also look for a way to avoid that altogether, but I can't seem to find it for now..

Catalyst version 15.5.
CodeXL also segfaults on startup due to a problem with the OpenGL renderer.
No log file is generated under /tmp.
I'd highly appreciate any help I can get with this.
I tried looking for previous versions of CodeXL to check if they would work, but they don't seem to be available for download. Are they available somewhere? Is there a chance that they don't have this problem?

Thanks for reporting this.
This doesn't happen on any of the Linux stations we run CodeXL on, so it is difficult to pinpoint the reason for the crash.
I've added protection against crashing when collecting the OpenGL runtime details. It will be available in the next CodeXL release.
