binutils version?

I want to use a binutils package (mainly assembler with 'Bacelona' support). Which official version of 'binutils' support this new arch. OTOH, I found 'binutils-amd-sles9-070220-5.x86_64.rpm' on dev central with barcelona support, what is the version# of the this package. I downloaded the source rpm and built on by myself and when I did as --version, I just got 20070220. I was expecting 2.17.x or 2.18.x or something similar.
Any idea anybody?

Thanks in advance.

The AMD Family 10h patches were accepted upstream as of early December 2006. That would mean full support of Barcelona should be in upstream versions 2.17.50 and later. Alternately, you can download a version that supports Barcelona from http://developer.amd.com.

There hasn't been an official release of binutils after the Barcelona instructions were added to it. When 2.18 comes out, it will contain the Barcelona instructions. The release number 070220 is from the development sources that were checked out on February 20, 2007.

The Linux binutils 2.17.50.0.18 beta release should also include these patches.
