Hello there,

does anybody try out the Apple M1 chip to run ProRender.

I have accidentally try it and it works fine. Little bit slow, but very fast in the compiling shaders process...

And an additional question: does a ProRender PlugIn for C4d will come out any soon?

I am Running Big Sur 11.3 and the C4D S 22.123.

Greetings from Germany

For months the drop was on Thursday, then AMD missed this past one and dropped on Friday.

Was it to confuse the bots, did someone forget to push the button?

I have made it to the submit order area more times than I wan to admit, I do hope the captcha helps those of us that would like to get out hands on a 6800XT or 6900XT since this is the only place that has reasonable prices and quick shipping.

AMD you out there, drop us a note, we are listening.

I ordered Ryzen right from lauchday and got a 1700 with a Asrock X370 Killer SLI/AC, its been quite a Journey as I had lots of trouble getting ram to get past 2133 and stable at 3000mhz speeds, in 2018 I upgraded to a 2700x was more stable with the ram but still had a few issues. Now with the latest bios and Running a 3900x, I went and bought G.Skill 3200 ram guessing it wouldn't run at those speeds but nope runs perfect right out of the box no crashes no errors, Love this 3900x so much faster then the 2700x.

Please AMD just send me a link so I can buy a 6800xt to get that team green Nvidia card out of my system. Long live AMD!

TLDR bought a 3900x for old x370 board would love to get a radeon card to go with it!

What version of Blender and ProRender do I need for a 7970?

I updated Blender from 2.8 something to 2.92, and also updated ProRender to 3.1.0 (the version of ProRender I had before was an exe, so it must've been pre 2.4.11) . It was only after deleting all the old files I realised ProRender has dropped support for my card...

For hours I've been trying different version combinations of Blender and ProRender, using the update notes as a guide of which versions to pair, but I can't seem to get anything more than crashes or black screens in the render.

I also updated my graphics driver so I don't know if that's part of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit:

There is a restore point before I updated, if it doesn't work at least it gives me exact version numbers.

Edit2:

Restore didn't work

Teradici’s CAS, which won an Engineering Emmy® from the Television Academy in 2020, powers secure remote solutions with unparalleled performance for even the most graphics-intensive applications. Bottlenecks were removed and scalability increased.

The capabilities of PCoIP Ultra leverage the AMD CPU and GPU hardware in the G4ad instances and is why support for this protocol is so important. CAS with PCoIP Ultra offers:

A high-definition and highly responsive user experience secured by Teradici using AES 256 encryption to meet the security standards required by governments and large enterprises proven and hardened in large scale usage.

A protocol designed for graphics-intensive workloads such as game development and media & entertainment or 3D/CAD applications.

CAS and PCoIP Ultra™ features including 1) 4K/UHD high-frame-rate content 2) Efficient scaling across multicore CPUs, leveraging AVX2 instruction sets 3) Expanded multi-codec architecture for third-party codecs, including H.264/HEVC

G4ad instances powered by AMD Radeon PRO V520 GPU with CAS are ideal for remote graphical desktop and workstation support, offering:

Support for key Graphical APIs including DirectX 11/12, Vulkan 1.1, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.5 APIs critical to support many ISV applications

Operating systems: Windows Server 2016/2019, Amazon Linux 2, Ubuntu 18.04.3, and CentOS 7.7. Proprietary data and IP can remain safely controlled within AWS, whilst CAS streams the pixels to artists’ devices via an encrypted streaming session using the PCoIP protocol. Data security protections for downloading, sharing or accessing data are implemented by Teradici CAS to help comply with TPN protocols and security requirements enforced within physical studios.

With CAS offering a range of software clients including Windows, Linux, Android tablets and MacOS as well as thin and zero client options, G4ad instances can offer a wide range of remote, flexible and mobile work styles.

If you’d like to find out more, please visit Amd.com

The CAS and AWS G4ad bundled instance for Windows is now available on the AWS Marketplace.
How to get a 'night' environment sky look using AMD Pro Render and Blender 2.9?

Using Blender 2.9, apparently it doesn't have that "time and date" feature anymore in the sun and sky properties tab. How is one supposed to get a night ambient sky? By tuning down the sun intensity? The lack of documentation is quite frustrating and stressful

Hello people. Does anyone have an idea of when a AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Graphics Card (or anything that would work with my iMac, even the 5000 series) might be available? I desperately need one so I can (hopefully) use redshift in Cinema 4D on my iMac. Last week I had a live chat with Kaleb, from South Dakota, who was very helpful. He told me to check the site on Thursday between around 11:30 - 3:00, and that for the previous two Thursdays the site was restocked at around the same time. So I checked, and they did become available at around 1pm, but I couldn’t get one. I think the site was overloaded with users. So today I tried again. I sat at my computer and refreshed the page every 20 seconds for 4 hours. All this week I’ve been checking the site to see if the chat might become available. And it never did. Does anyone know, is there a certain day of the week when the site might be restocked? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

A year ago today, AMD announced the AMD COVID-19 HPC Fund. We donated products and expertise to leading institutions to accelerate medical research on COVID-19 and to improve our ability to respond to future global health crises.

Today, one year later, 23 grantees across seven countries are benefitting from the fund, which has grown to $20M in total market value. With 12 petaflops of total supercomputing capacity now awarded, the combined compute capacity donated through the AMD COVID-19 HPC Fund would rank among the fastest supercomputers in the world according to the most recent Top500 list.

Greetings to all,

I'm new to posting here, but I would really appreciate a way to give AMD feedback directly. I have been tracking the potential release of 5000 series APUs for months now, as I am building a desktop PC for my dad. Today I learned that, once again, AMD has decided not to release these processors to retailers and the DIY community. I am grievously disappointed in this corporate decision. I have always been a supporter of AMD after having become familiar with thier products, which I prefer to thier competitors, but today I feel like the DIY community and budget gamers have been slapped in the face. I suppose it was my own naivety for seeing this tech producer as something other than just another empty, soul-less suit leadership, avaricious, invester only oriented, consumer bilking, grey corporate entity. It's such a pity because you could have actually supported the little guy as much as your marketing orientation claims to. I wanted there to be something special, even a bit noble, about AMD, but the truth is there is no "Team Red", only "Team Green".

😞

Threadripper 3960X extremely poor performance with OpenMP parallelization

Greetings. Testing the performance of the new chip and have found some significant performance problems and reductions relative to the Intel 7700K I was using previously.

Take this example code. There is a Boolean map (2D) called "finds" which has already been performed for a 2D array "data" searching for values. The number of true elements ("Nfinds") in the "finds" map is much smaller than the number of elements of the map itself (which is equal dimension to "data") - less than 1%.

Please now note the two commented out lines giving the #pragma directives. If uncommented, then of course the compiler will use OpenMP to parallelize the outer for loop. Inside the for loop, if "finds" is true at an element then some data needs to be stored and and indexer must be incremented. Note the "critical" directive which enforces that this section of code is accessed sequentially. Of course, this breaks complete parallelism, however, given that the frequency of true elements in "finds" is low then it is rare that threads would need to wait for each other to get through this section. On the Intel chip this wasn't a problem and for 5k x 5k arrays (25 megapixels) this code completed essentially instantaneously when parallelized.

However on the AMD chip this code section requires 21 seconds to complete. If I comment out the OpenMP directives, as shown in the code below, then this code executes in less than 1 second on a single thread.

Other parallelized code runs quickly and fine, as you would expect for a 48-thread system, and outperforms my old Intel 7700K with 8 threads. The Intel chip ran the code section below just fine as parallelized, but running it on the AMD system is really quite terrible. The AMD chip doesn't seem to "handle the logic" as well, or whatever. The "critical" section would only be accessed less than 1% of the time for the test data, and so threads really shouldn't get in each other's way, and even if they do, on the Intel system this code runs much faster as parallelized than single threaded and completes "instantaneously", whereas the AMD system requires 21 seconds here when parallelized.

The code is VS C++ .net and compiled in VS2019.

<LI-CODE lang="csharp">array<int, 2>^ result = gcnew array<int, 2>(Nfinds, 2);
Nfinds = 0;
//#pragma omp parallel for
for (int i = 0; i < data->GetLength(0); i++)
	for (int j = 0; j < data->GetLength(1); j++)
		if (finds[i, j])
		{
			//#pragma omp critical
			{
				result[Nfinds, 0] = i;//x
				result[Nfinds, 1] = j;//y
				Nfinds++;
			}
		}</LI-CODE>

my current setup I have a dedicated Radeon Pro WX 5100 card for renders in blender but when I setup the opencl using cycles or AMD Pro Render the render are super slow and depending of the version of blender there are artifacts. is there something I need to enable or check to get faster renders with AMD Gpu's my AMD cpu feel like they render faster than my gpus. I really havent found a good applications in my pipeline that justified the cost of buying this card. are there any better rendering addon or programs than blender that take advantage of amd gpus?

Hello, my name is Kirkland and I'm a 13 year senior software developer from the United States interested in building my skills in GPGPU computation using OpenCL, OpenCV, and Vulkan on AMD GPUs. I've made a lucrative career thus far being a self-educated computer scientist, a path in life I took having been inspired by greats like the Wright Brothers and Richard Feynman, and hope that my independent research is able to one day make waves in the field of computer science and cognition. At the moment I mostly hope to find answers to my questions which originated in AMD's HIP videos on YouTube.

(FIXED) RX570 Suffering To Render Smoke In Blender 2.92

Temporary fixed by downgrading Blender 2.92 to Blender LTS version (2.83.13). My RX570 run well on cycles now. And able to render any object with volume node.

I am using Blender version 2.92 with AMD GPU RX570 on windows 10 x64.

The smoke effect is not supposed to appear, but on that frame, you can see a black color that shows the smoke domain area is also rendered. And sometimes there are colors that shouldn't appear, whether it's white spots or something else.

This happens every time there is an object that uses the Principle Volume, when it is rendered, the rendering results are always strange.

I chose to use Cycles for this purpose, because even though I use RPR version 3.1, the rendering results are still messy and often make my computer cramp and freeze.

Should i buy the most high end AMD GPU to fix this issue?

Hi AMD.. please fix it immediately, I don't want the GPU domination to be controlled by NVIDIA alone.

Please hire lots of developers to solve problems in Blender or in Radeon Prorender development. I suffered a lot using your GPU when dealing with Blender.

Power usage of EPYC 7282 vs 7302P

Hi everyone,

I have noticed that in the servethehome benchmarks, the 7282 has an almost 50% higher power usage than the 7302P! And that's despire the 7282 being advertised as 120W TDP and the 7302P being advertised as 155W TDP. I posted more details here but no one was really able to give information about the power usage of the 7282: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/power-usage-of-amd-epyc-7282-vs-7302p.32478/

I contacted AMD and they suggested that I ask here. Does anyone know what the power usage of the 7282 is like in practice?

AMD needs to wake up! The fact that they put this out where the public can access this limited engagement is just a major failure. Yes this is a failure of what they say "This is an exclusive advance notice to members of the AMD Red Team community and this offer has limited availability, while supplies last." taken out of the email sent on the 6th.. there is nothing Exclusive about this no measures taken to ensure that only red team members get a card. Here is how they can solve it, but will not for what ever reason:

You should have to be signed in as a red team member

Your statues needs to be a member for 6months -1 year, FYI I have been a member for over 3yrs if you are curious

limit one or two card/s per person/ member

limit the purchase/s to the payment method used

AMD needs to stop being like NVIDIA and start thinking of the Gamers again! by making assertive efforts to make sure the gamers are taken care of and not the Scalpers!

AMD we have the technology to do the above I want an reasonable answer why this is not happening! Yes am I upset of course I am and it is because my wife who I stream with is on a 7870 and starting to not be able to play certain games. As you can imagine also cannot find a card that is reasonably priced that will be a decent fit. So yah, I'm upset with your laziness and false statements that you are for the Gamer!

Once again AMD you failed, us the Gamers and your supposed Beloved RED TEAM!!!!! Way to to GO!

Anyone that agrees with me please hit that Kudos button maybe we can get this to be taken care of..

once a member that believed AMD's statement "AMD is for the Gamers"

toast

The 5800x, 3950x, 3900x are all in stock, but I can't add them to my cart. How am I supposed to buy a GPU when I can't even buy the other components from this site? Does anyone have a fix? Tried another browser but nothing changed.

Why does it take more time to post a message in the forums than buying a GPU?

In order to post a message on this website you need to tick a Captcha box and confirm your message via email verification link (at least I had to). Isn't that ridiculous?

Does anyone have experience with buying a GPU here? Because I think that would be much faster than posting something in the forums. That would say a lot about how absolutely weird and human-unfriendly the AMD shop is.

Building a new rig for my father, he wants it to have the 5950x (obviously cant get it now) with a workstation board. I've been compiling a build list and I can't seem to really find any workstation boards that will support that CPU socket size....

He has been using a Asus P8 Z77 WS mobo since 2011 with a i7-3770 with 0 problems since he built it--very stable.

Right now, the only Asus workstation mobo I can find is the ASUS AMD AM4 PRO WS X570-ACE ATX Workstation.

Can anyone recommend a Workstation board that will fit the 5950x? Asus, prefered but will consider other brands.

So hi guys, I noticed that the newest driver of AMD is not compatible with eon-Vue.
I know Vue is not as famous as it was before, but Vue still my best software to create 3D render.
I tried to run Vue with the latest AMD driver and Vue crashes as soon as I opened it.
So I need to use the older AMD driver to make Vue run without crashing.

Is there any possible way to fix this without using older AMD driver? If yes please share to me.

(P.S. I have sent a ticket to AMD service support and eon VUE support by email, I hope they could find a solution for this)

Thank you

DXR/RTX a marvelous scandal.

Just when GPU GPU rasterization performance hit a historic high where high frame rate gaming is now possible at ultra settings, 1440p or even 4k someone crashed the party. (Nvidia)

No longer being able to hide behind DX11 performance gimps (tessellation abuse, draw call abuse, driver overhead) Nvidia needed a new gimmick to differentiate themselves from the more formidable than ever AMD...thus RTX/DXR was created.

Aimed at artificially manufacturing a way to make graphics chips seem inadequate again DXR reinstates the illusion of a disappointing price/performance pyramid with Nvidia at the top and AMD lured into playing catchup. Raytracing is a fundamentally inefficient algorithm in that the computation costs of realtime implementations produces little to no visual advantage over countless much more efficient techniques including SSR, light mapping, SDFGI, etc.

RDNA2 on the other hand is an outstanding architecture and the 128MB infinity cache bandwidth amplification is easily the engineering marvel of this generation boasting a much higher potential performance advantage for game developers than Nvidia's expensive and inefficient scale-out architecture (amphere).

RDNA2 is not bad at raytracing, the reletively poor raytracing performance as seen in games like Cyberpunk and Control are due to poorly written shader code with little to no regard for architecture or performance. In fact with properly written code RDNA2 is architecturally superior to Amphere at raytracing.

To explain; the most important harware feature for DXR performance outside of having ray intersection accelerators is shader core performance. Rays need intersection calculations but they also need to be shaded via radiance calculations like BRDF, phong, lambert, etx. Ray intersection calculations are much faster relative to rayshading because it utilizes hardware acceleration the later is the slowest and has the biggest performance hit as it uses shader cores. Amphere has single precision FP32 shader performance that is nearly double that of RDNA2 which more than explains the performance difference in DXR games. This advantage is only because game developers use single precision FP32 calculations to do rayshading. RDNA2 actually has a much bigger advantage in shading performance than Amphere in that RDNA2 has more that double the shader performance of amphere whe using half precision FP16. So if game developers would just switch from FP32 to FP16 in the HLSL shaders to do rayshading the performance of the RX6000 series GPUs would sharply increase by over 100% in extreme cases.

Also, its totally safe to do rayshading at FP16 half percision. It doesn't cause artifacts and looks no different from FP32. I am a graphics developer and I use FP16 in all my bounced lighting calculations including BRDFs, phong shading, diffuse shading, transparency with refraction, etc.

Good day!

I want to allocate large buffers on GPU only. My current code is as following for 2GB chunk of memory:
<LI-CODE lang="cpp">clCreateBuffer(context, CL_MEM_HOST_NO_ACCESS | CL_MEM_READ_WRITE, 2 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024, nullptr, &result);</LI-CODE>
The problem is that this 2GB of memory is also allocated in VRAM! And if there is not enough memory in VRAM, my application just closed by the Windows.

My question is how to allocate memory on the GPU only without allocation in VRAM of host?

Best regards, Dmitry.

This affects mining and other compute workloads.

1. Connect with RDP to a PC: 1) with AMD GPUs 2) and Windows 10.

2. Start a watchdogged compute workload (try any AMD crypto miner + a script that restarts the miner when its process exits).

3. Disconnect RDP.

4. The miner works, but a new compute task won't be able to start.

5. Simulate compute workload "crash": taskkill /f /im miner.exe the crypto miner through the SSH in Windows 10.

6. Watchdog script will start the miner process again, but the miner gets stuck somewhere in OpenCL and/or ADL calls.

7. Login through RDP again and the miner will get unstuck and proceed to mining.

I've seen something about XDDM -> WDDM RDP driver change in Windows 10 that might be causing this. NVIDIA is not affected.

Hello,

When trying to profile an application on my Windows 10 system I am told that IBS is not enabled in my BIOS.

As there is no options in my BIOS to enable IBS I have contacted my motherboard vendor (TUF B450). They told me that on my cpu (Ryzen 5 3600) IBS is enabled by default.

Should i press my vendor for more information or is there a problem on uProf's side ?

AMD “Zen3” processors feature a new technology called Predictive Store Forwarding (PSF). PSF is a hardware-based micro-architectural optimization designed to improve the performance of code execution by predicting dependencies between loads and stores.

Security research in recent years has examined the security implications of various CPU micro-architectural optimizations.. In particular, programs that implement ‘sandboxing’ entirely in software may need to be concerned with PSF behavior.

AMD CPU architects write about PSF in a paper describing how PSF works, potential security concerns, and available mitigations. The paper is available here.

Tried different ports, cables, DP/HDMI, reset, factory reset no result... Custom resolution does nothing. Is there any fix to it? Video card RX 5700 XT. Connected via DP.
RDNA OpenGL bug with glColorPointer and GL_BGRA

Users of several games using our engine have reported that surfaces are flickering using the Radeon RX 5700 XT. I have traced this down to the use of GL_BGRA as first argument to glColorPointer calls, which causes it to apparently sample garbled data. This occurs both with the fixed-function pipeline, as well as with shaders that use gl_Color. It does not seem to occur for glVertexAttribPointer.

I captured an apitrace file that can be replayed using qapitrace or glretrace to reproduce the issue. The last few frames show flickering white text (text rendering is grouped under "wglGraphicsWindow window1" > "render2d"), which should instead be continuously white and clearly visible, as it is on other cards:

http://rdb.name/amd-rdna-bug.trace

Avoiding use of GL_BGRA works around the issue for us. Let me know if I can provide any additional assistance.

This is a regression: drivers 20.2.1, 20.2.2, 20.3.1, 20.4.1, and 20.4.2 do not exhibit the issue, 20.5.1 through 21.3.1 (latest) do.

rx 5700 xt OpenCL freezes - computing and clinfo

Hi,

I am using Centos 7. I was using the driver from amdgpu, but don't remember if pro or not. I could run OpenCL... until the computation is long enough (1-2s), that it freezes... and sometimes the whole machine is freezed, with only solution a hard reset. Awful.

So, I wanted to give a try with new drivers, just in case... and now it is even worst, I cannot list with clinfo nor execute the simplest kernel.

What is going on?

I am trying to update just because the GPU freezes eventually when I run kernels.. and now it cannot even start.

<LI-CODE lang="markup">$ clinfo

I was able to render a scene by using Maya's native 3d container to create emitters attached to objects (with the legacy renderer engine 1.0 instead 2.0). However the orientation of the generated smoke from the emitters is off. Please let me know how to fix this issue.

Has AMD Red Team Chickened out of 3D Mark Firestrike and TimeSpy Scoreboards?

I would have thought that the RX5950X and RX5900XT owners could post some reasonable scores versus Nvidia these days.

Just asking.

Why buy amd?

This is my first pc build in about 20 years. Used to be a fan of amd, so I planned an amd based build. I got a ryzen 3900x, running it on an x570 motherboard, nvme m.2 ssd, 4000 mhz ram, the works. The idea was to run qhd at 120 hz. Well, built all that months ago, complete with 34 inch freesync based monitor, and the only amd graphics cards I can find are 4 gig 128 bit pieces of crap. Even third gen cards going for double msrp. Have discord and several different stock drop notification systems to let me know when cards are in stock. Then Amd.com tells me available then has "technical errors" as bots buy the last remaining stock for scalpers in fractions of a second. AMD obviously doesn't care enough to limit where they send stock or require 2 part verification for purchase. Now having stock notification systems for graphics cards I have had several opportunities to pick up a 3080, and I find myself wishing I could un-buy all this practically worthless AMD junk. I could run this rx550 on a quadcore with a 50$ mobo and saved myself well over a grand.

Now that my pc is built my brother wants me to help him build his pc.

So my question for amd is this. How could I recommend amd knowing he won't be able to use the system for months? Can you give me any reason at all not to tell him to go pick up a nvidia graphics card and build his system from there?

I was an Intel fan back in the years 5 - 7 years ago, but i switched to AMD due its price and performance in gaming, but the funny thing happend to me today i found youtube recommending me a 15 years old video AMD vs Intel, i mean whats the point, we knew AMD was struggling that time, but why they recommending me a 15 years old video (my guess Intel is involved).
here is the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxSqCdT7xPY

uprof filling up 100+GB space on system partion and take hours to process data

I was doing "assess performance extended" on a game which at the end records about 15 minutes of trace. After the recording ends uprof gradually filled up the entire partition C(which has about 150GB free space). It's also very likely to fail at the end, but when it succeeded the end result is only 13GB all files combined. Is this normal? Should I reduce the test time or it's only a bug?

The cpu is 5800X and there are 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

Thank you.

Microsoft Azure NVv4 could help students and teachers look forward to back to school

Many schools and colleges rapidly embraced Microsoft® Azure® to enable them to rapidly scale learning and collaboration platforms to address the immediate and urgent needs to get students home-learning as soon as possible. However now many senior leadership teams in educational organisations are reviewing their experiences and the benefits of the technologies to explore how they can be used to improve the educational experience into a future where face-to-face learning again becomes the normal. Microsoft Azure NVv4 instances are particularly well suited to the graphical demands of delivering video rich content and interactive live online lessons. Initially, many businesses turned to Azure to meet an immediate need which resulted in a disruptive 2020, however but now those businesses are looking to optimize and expand their Azure infrastructure long term and integrate the remote learning infrastructure into blended educational models around face-to-face teaching.

Five Key traits businesses are keen to retain include:

Continuity and catch-up for students

Now that schools have the capabilities to deliver learning materials remotely and maintain continuity with students off-site, there is the potential to limit disruption to students’ education by factors that have always impacted on individual students’ education and future outcomes. The mass of digital content, recorded lessons and lesson plans that have been amassed on Azure storage via SharePoint and LMS (Learning Management Systems) such as Blackboard, Canvas and Moodle; is available on-going as a resource to aid students who miss school for illness or extreme weather events or for students with learning challenges to revisit on catch-up programmes. An advantage of Azure infrastructure is its ability to provide high-availability functionality at scale.

Insight

After nearly a year of disruption, institutions that have turned to Azure have automatically accumulated a wealth of data around application, hardware and Network usage. Using these data collection tools built into Azure, educational establishments can plan better to reduce costs and optimise resource usage. Institutions can eliminate unused application licences and plan next year’s budget accounting for termly variations based on real user data. Within applications such as Teams, educators and institution management can access a wealth of data associated with tracking student attention as well as identify students with bandwidth / connectivity problems via “Education Insights for Teams”.

Inclusion and Accessibility

The natural tools for educational content delivery on Azure are of course the office and collaborative tools from Microsoft themselves such as Microsoft 365 (was Office 365), Teams and Streams. Microsoft has long had a commitment to unifying inclusivity and accessibility features across their products. Educators using Teams and Streams can automatically make content available with captions (subtitles) in a native language or even a second language for students with second-language or hearing challenges. A wealth of other features cater for visual impairments, neuro-diversity and mobility challenges. Accessibility Technology & Tools - Microsoft Accessibility. On-going teachers who have acquired competencies with these technologies are looking to continue their use within face-to-face contexts.

Widening Curricula

It has always been a challenge to provide a wide curriculum in small schools and rural areas or to enable students wanting to study less popular subjects. With both students and educators becoming confident in remote and asynchronous learning, many educators are exploring opportunities to share staff beyond their immediate area. For many school leaders this meant dealing with the challenges of trying to recruit for part time roles and left staff with the insecurity of such roles. Many teachers have become confident in utilising and delivering externally prepared materials to reduce class preparation time and duplication. In the UK a government funded project has delivered prepared lessons for the majority of the UK National Curriculum via the Oak National Academy, with over 10,000 free lessons and resources.

Automating and improving administration

Teachers and Lecturers have discovered new ways to work more efficiently from automating registration sessions to recording student progression. Online tests, quizzes and homework usage have increased and many educators indicate they intend to continue to use these blended learning elements ongoing. Educators can also collect feedback easily to rapidly evolve their classes and respond to student needs.

For more details on the NVv4 instances I’ve covered some of the economics and advantages of using a GPU enabled instance for particular educational use cases in a previous blog.

Windows Virtual Desktop and NVv4 instance can help accelerate colleague learning

Read the latest information on Microsoft Azure NVv4 instances and WVD and how schools and colleges can built out the latest virtual labs to accelerate student learning remotely.

Click here to view the PDF

Additional links

NVv4 landing page: www.amd.com/nvv4

NVv4 pricing: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/details/virtual-machines/windows

NVv4 Microsoft GA blog: https://azure.microsoft.com/pt-br/blog/power-your-azure-gpu-workstations-with-flexible-gpu-partition...

Education solution blog: https://community.amd.com/t5/instinct-accelerators-blog/amd-and-nvv4-instances-education/ba-p/418165/jump-to/first-unread-message

Top 5 education trends blog: https://community.amd.com/t5/instinct-accelerators-blog/5-key-trends-in-educational-use-of-microsoft-azure/ba-p/444173/jump-to/first-unread-message

Education solution brief:

George Watkins is a Product Marketing Manager for AMD. There are tons of people out there who's still waiting for a good opportunity to grab one of your cards but get overriden by botters. If you want to release a GPU, please.. do it properly!

With MSI's getting caught red handed subsidiary scalping cards, I'm starting to wonder if AMD/Nvidia are doing the same. Instant sellout, zero bot mitigation cards appearing on Ebay already? There needs to be a federal level investigation into this mess.

Windows AMD uProf on Zen 2 with Linux KVM Hypervisor

Hi, uProf is listed as supporting Windows guest VMs on Linux KVM Hypervisors, but I am unable to profile my desired application after installing AMDuProf inside the guest and attempting to start an application trace. I'm using a Zen 2 CPU for this.

Failed to load driver.
If you have recently upgraded or installed AMD uProf, please reboot and try again.
An unsupported hypervisor has been detected.
CPU Profiling driver does not support running on this hypervisor guest operating system.
CPU Profiling is unavailable.

The pertinent section of my libvirt guest definition, in case uProf is looking for a specific vendor ID string or CPU feature bits:

<LI-CODE lang="markup">  <features>
    <acpi/>
    <apic/>

      <vapic state='on'/>
      <spinlocks state='on' retries='8191'/>
      <vpindex state='on'/>
      <synic state='on'/>
      <stimer state='on'>
        <direct state='on'/>
      </stimer>
      <vendor_id state='on' value='KVM Hv'/>
    </hyperv>
    <kvm>
      <hidden state='on'/>
      <hint-dedicated state='on'/>
    </kvm>
    <pmu state='off'/>
    <vmport state='off'/>
    <ioapic driver='kvm'/>

  <cpu mode='host-passthrough' check='none' migratable='off'>
    <topology sockets='1' dies='1' cores='31' threads='2'/>
    <cache level='3' mode='emulate'/>
    <feature policy='disable' name='svm'/>
    <feature policy='require' name='apic'/>
    <feature policy='require' name='invtsc'/>
    <feature policy='require' name='hypervisor'/>
    <feature policy='require' name='topoext'/>
  </cpu></LI-CODE>

I've verified that IBS is working correctly on the Linux hypervisor via the AMD_IBS_Toolkit; the ibs_test application is successfully able to retrieve IBS samples from the CPU. But the guest AMDuProf both generates the above hypervisor error, as well as stating that IBS is not enabled in the BIOS settings (which I'm assuming is the same issue).
