Feedback for Linux Beta ( Alpha....) release installation

Interestingly when I grabbed the files on Sat there was only files in the lnx32 and not lnx64.  On Sunday both directories had files.  My initial comment will be limited to the lnx32, and just getting installed on a Fedora 8 box.

For a vanilla fedora 8 there are the following problems

1)   build problems ( flgrx need to fix their spec file.... ) the link below helped me.

http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32776&postcount=24

xcb lock issue.  ( upgrade xcb needed, recommend upgrade all while having lunch.)

2) Readme Files has typoes.  ( below from the read me file.... )

1.Run CAL installer script "amdcal-1.01.1_beta.x86_64.run"
(default cal location is /usr/local/amdcal)

maybe the name should have been amdcal-1.01.1_beta.i386.run.....

and of course the same mistake on amdbrook...

and of course correct the LD_LIBRARY_PATH ( lib64 -> lib )...

( 3 out 4 four line wrong good think I not the grader....)

so my story
6 hrs
clean install of Fedora8
fix spec problems
upgrade xcb and all packages
watch JPL mission control as Phoenix lands on Mars....
2 beer ( to celebrate Phoenix landing on Mars )...

and show to see about streaming...

If other have problem with Fedora 8 post them here and I will try and help...

Hi Allen,

Thanks for your post!

We actually haven't tested on Fedora as part of our QA cycle.

Just checking... after these steps, was it working for you?

I'm using Fedora 8 x86_64, seems as though there are issues with the driver initializing properly (from the Xorg log):

(EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been initialized.
(WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed!                  *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO)             *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available                *
(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *

This is after I've run 'aticonfig --initial', which seems to complete

fine.

When I try to run any of the samples in the Brook+ SDK they fail
with:

Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Segmentation fault

Any ideas?  I've tried re-installing the driver to no effect.

Thanks!

Hi Hugh,

We don't yet test on Fedora 8. There have been various people on the forum who have worked through it on though.

However, even though we don't support it officially, let me pass your error message by our engineers to see if they can offer any quick suggestions.

Michael.
