Freesync brightness flickering

Hello,

I have same problem as many other users.

Brightness flickering in some games: PUBG and WoT, I think because my PC is able to run it at more than 144 fps as my monitor has a Freesync range: 48-144hz.

I tried following:

  • Limiting fps to 139
  • Changing Freesync range on my monitor, result: BSOD
  • Freesync and Vsync
  • DDU install of new drivers 19.11.3 and 19.10.1 (WHQL)
  • Installing latest signed drivers from AOC website

All of those didn't help me to solve my issue.

What solved my issue is turning off Freesync, great fix.

I wrote already to AMD support but I don't think they will fix anything cause this issue has been around for 2-3 years, via. Brightness flickering when freesync is ON in multiple games (worse since last driver update).

My PC:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
MB: GB B450 Aorus Elite
GPU: Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse
RAM: Viper 4 3000MHz 2x8GB
PSU: EVGA 650W Gold Quality
OS: Windows 10 on 1909 Update
Monitor: AOC C24G1 |Freesync 144Hz|

AMD fix your stuff even G-Sync is working more properly.
If you have any suggestion please let me know.
Thank you

AMD solved the flickering problem before G-SYNC support of your monitor. Do not use any driver for your monitor. Use DDU for removing old drivers. You may need to identify the FPS range that caused the flickering issue and report this to AMD.

I actually already tried clean install of drivers without driver for monitor, but basic driver is installed always by Windows (PnP driver). I tried limiting fps with FRTC in Radeon Software to 139fps without any success. Is it faulty monitor or Freesync, let me know because I still have time to return it. Thank you

You should report this to AMD. Good luck...

Thank you for your input.

I already wrote them they told me to wait for new drivers and that he is sending copy of our conversation to internal team.

Like I bought this monitor for great price 180$ (in Czech Republic) and Freesync but I cannot use it.

AMD solved the flickering problem. But the problem continues for some series I think. I think a limited number of users are experiencing this issue. This is not the monitor issue. You should contact AMD and request a fix. Try your monitor with a GSYNC-supported system whenever possible, to be sure. Good luck...

Actually might found a fix for that. Enabling Radeon Chill.

Will try G-Sync compatible GPU and I wrote again to AMD. Let's see what they'll tell me about it.

Thanks for info

I actually fixed this issue using Radeon Chill Edit: Same issue again even with Radeon Chill.

Try using Radeon Chill and let me know if it fixes your problem.

Btw don't make me send back my monitor and change it for 1440p 144Hz .

I'm having the same problem. The flickering only happens when freesync is turned on, and only while the game is in focus (if I click away to another window, it stops flickering - I assume this is because it's just locking the framerate)
CPU: FX-8320
MB: Asus 970 Pro/Gaming Aura
GPU: Asus Vega 64 Strix (same issue with an XFX rx570)
RAM: Adata XPG V1.0 4x4Gb 1600 cl11
PSU: EVGA Supernova 1300 G2
OS: Windows 10 on 1909 Update | Radeon Driver 20.3.1
Monitor: AOC C24G1 |Freesync 144Hz (also tried at 120hz)
