after updating to 18.9.3 driver, almost every window start up will either freeze or give me bsod. if able to log in window it will crash in less than 10 mins.
stopcode was 116,117
it is fine when in safe mode or when driver is disabled.
tried reinstalling by amd cleanup tool and ddu or roll back to previous 17.11 version but still the same.
tried window update.
some times the installation would fail to install amd setting.
no recent hardware change.
chkdsk and sfc found nothing.
spec:
i5 6500
16g ram
r7 260x
toshiba 3t hhd
msi h110m motherboard
win7 64bit
update:
just installed window on a new hdd, and then amd driver, seems to run ok but when playing youtube video or games it gives me stopcode 116.
tried to remove the card and connect to motherboard and all is fine.
logs from event viewer:
app
system
all are error level.
update 2:
found version 14.4 and it appears fine playing youtube in 4k and games prior to 2014.
even 14.4 works, it would sometimes stop and recover.
Have you tried the latest driver for your card? AMD Radeon™ R7 260X Drivers & Support | AMD
Have you fully updated Win7?
** Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 must be fully updated before attempting to install any AMD driver. All 'critical', 'recommended', and 'optional' (no language packs, etc) updates as well as any Service Packs (SP) must be installed before any attempt to install graphics drivers. If you do not get this message .... keep installing until you do:
as i mentioned window has been updated and the 18.9.3 is the newest driver.
The latest driver is the 18.11.2
that is beta version and i have also tested it.
Web search the 'TargetInstance………………………/CIMV2'. there's an MS fix for that.
Not saying it will fix the other windows errors..116(TDR)
one phenomenon i found is that even with the card removed the pc boots normally instead of beeps.
does it indicate the motherboard is having problem with pci e?
also, some graphical glitch like red dotted line was spotted occasionally.
update:
the card has been moved to install in another pc and it works with games and youtube for over one hour with only one bsod. stopcode 116
i put in another graphic card, hd4870, and it ran fine for 12 hours.
it's pretty obvious the card is the problem but how do i confirm it isn't the firmware?
Well, you could try https://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/
