Whats the difference between AMD Ryzen 7 2700 65w & 105w

Both advertised on Amazon and both show different wattage

1 is AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-Core 20 MB Cache 65 W

1 is AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-Core 20 MB Cache 105 W

The other difference is diffent coolers

Which is the best CPU & cooler to buy out of the 2 for performance?

Make sure your Motherboard has the latest BIOS and CHIPSET installed and check the Motherboard's MEMORY QVL list to make sure your RAM Module number is listed. The Ryzens CPUs seems to be fairly sensitive to the type of RAM Installed.

Here the Asus Motherboard MEMORY QVL list : http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_X470-PRO/PRIME-X470-PRO-memory-QVL-for-Ryzen2nd-... .

The latest BIOS and CHIPSET for your Asus Motherboard: PRIME X470-PRO Driver & Tools | Motherboards | ASUS USA

BIOS

Version 40112018/05/028.16 MBytes

PRIME X470-PRO BIOS 4011
Update AGESA 1.0.0.2a + SMU 43.18

Chipset

Version 5.12.0.382018/04/18372.43 MBytes

AMD Chipset driver
AMD AM4 Chipset Driver V5.12.0.38 for Windows Win10 64bit. (AMD package version is V17.40.3765, VGA driver version is V23.20.840.0)

The 2700X is 105w, the 2700 is 65w. The 2700X is clocked higher than the 2700.

Very helpful.. Thank you :-)

The Ryzen 7 2700 is 65 watts but the more powerful same version Ryzen 7 2700X is 105 watts.

Thanks for the info....

So i take it the 105w is a better processor for performance. I'm asking because im stuck on what one to put into my new ASUS PRIME X470-PRO motherboard when it arrives. :-)

I found a supported ram list here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_X470-PRO/PRIME-X470-PRO-memory-QVL-for-Ryzen2nd-...  :-)

Thanks for all your assistance guys

The higher TDP allows for more aggressive boost clocks and higher manual overclocking results.

The Asus X470 PRO board has BIOS settings for different cooling solutions.

Auto is for the supplied Wraith Spire cooler (comes 2700X). less aggressive boost clocks (think max all core overclock I got on the spire was 4.1HGz but it would boost to 4.35 on 1 core no problems).

TPU 1 is for larger aftermarket aircoolers and 120 or 240mm AIO closed loop watercoolers. more aggressive boost clocks

TPU 2 is for 360mm AIO or full custom watercooling loops. most aggressive boost and allcore manual overclocks.

I now use a 360mm custom loop and can run my 2700X @ 4.3GHz all cores 24/7... and max temps I get are in the mid 50 degree range

Later BIOS updates will improve RAM support and possibly allow for better results and better gaming results but I doubt I'll get much more from the CPU. I am expecting a decent performance lift when my RAM actually receives proper QVL support as it's rated @ 3333MHz but atm it's only stable @ 2400MHz and isn't on the QVL just now....

I have built my new PC with the AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, Asus Prime X470 Pro mobo, and 16GB Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3000MHz, and it is flying. i clocked my ram to 2800MHZ and left the cpu at 3,80 GHz (bios auto).

I have installed an old USB 3.0 expansion card into the PCIe 2.0 slot but can't get it to function. I don't think the card is dead as it workied in my old AM3 build. There is not much to go on in the manual.

Maybe its just not compatible with this motherboard. Any advice would be great as i know you are all very knowledgeable and very helpful :-)

Oh BTW i decided on the 105w CPU.
