Firstly, make sure Win7 is FULLY updated. You can't skip this step:

** Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 must be fully updated before attempting to install any AMD driver. All 'critical', 'recommended', and 'optional' (no language packs,etc) updates as well as any Service Packs (SP) must be installed before any attempt to install graphics drivers. If you do not get this message .... keep installing until you do:

Thanks for basic info, I understand fully the "IT Staff" So what else we can investigate? There must be some-kind of code writer/reader who knows what for this message was implemented in driver/radeonsettings for?

18.2.1 works finally after deep cleaning of system. but did not test beta 18.2.3 as have no time ATM, but previously yes, 18.2.1 worked than I had (sic) installed 18.2.2 (which disappeared from AMD distribution, probably had serious bugs) and 18.2.3 destroyed my system, had to restore from certain backup. BTW in Radsetin the release of driver is 17.9.1 but i was so many times confusing me on records shown about driver version Radeon versions and so on that I do not look at it too seriously...

I clean all systems my way using 3 cleaners, so far they were efficient on many cases not only drivers, and none is DDU and AMD cleaner. Sometimes initially I use clean install... but I agree, it works a bit odd.

I still think about gigabyte and their attitude for client, they really do not care about upgrading firmware for this card, some gossip says that it can be replaced even with new 7 series cards FMW, but did not take this on my workbench yet  BTW.: kingfish we, I think, are about same age so same attitude for work and logic

if you notice the updated rivers are marked as optional maybe wait till the optional title is removed before updating , also when you update and the settings window dont work its hard to know wen next update is ready / new updates ready as cant see anything in the settings window on upgrades/ new patches/new drivers !

Hi back, still problems, still this ##ID_stringxx## issues, I have discovered it is error for AMD reporting soft which does not install properly. Did not install it this time, got this diagnostic from previous issue: some programs do not work with VGA soft...

This is basic error apearing, Radeon settins do not work at all.

I have the same problem. The last working Adrenaline is version 18.2.2. Still not fixed in 18.4.1. I have to downgrade again. I'm not very satisfied!

I have the exact same problems.

Tried AMD clean uninstall and then install of new driver. Problem still exists.

Tried DDU cleanup install and newest driver package install. Same problem still exists.

Tried AMD clean install and selected express installation. Same problem still exists.

I really hope AMD quickly comes up with an solution for this that works!

I've contacted german support. I'll hope they will do it. Last time I had problems with the new AMD drivers, they fixed it very quick. So let's see how they doing

It seems, AMD has no clue about it and trying to get rid of support tickets. After some suggested solutions (which didn't work), I got this reply today:

Last minute update: The Radeon Settings is not compatible as it is fully designed for win 10, I had removed all software cleaned trough and did more and more cleaning of system and registry manually and installed only latest drivers 18.4.1 performance in all games and system raised up in app 20 % so WTF is this all software for?

I am running Radeon Adrenalin 18.4.1 on Windows 7 64bit with HD7970 and R9280x cards.
I had not updated Windows 7 64bit since mid February.
I uninstalled the previous AMD Driver (18.2.1) in Control Panel.
I then rebooted and  I downloaded and installed the latest version of DDU and ran it in safe mode.

Asd a test I deliberately did not run Windows Update.
I then downloaded and installed 18.4.1, no problems seen. installed fine. ran fine.

I then uninstalled the driver in control panel, and again used DDU in safe mode.

I then ran Windows 7 Update.

I then reinstalled the Adrenalin 18.4.1 driver.

Again it seems to work fine.

I am continuing to investigate the error you found.

If you update to 18.4.1without uninstall existing driver then it keeps the older driver mine is 17.44 it also is 18.4.1 is an optional update so not undate radeon settings install may be the reason for mismatch i havent done anymore but gone back to 18.2.1 thnks .
