Edit: Any driver later than 16.7.2 (WHQL) causes win 10 to freeze on shutdown/restart

After installation of 16.7.3 the system wants to restart. At the shut down screen with the circling dots the pc lags down and the circle and cursor freezes, and pc becomes totally unresponsive. Only a hard shutdown/reset works (tried waiting 30 min). I can boot again fine with no error messages, but every time I shut down or restart it will freeze the same way. This prevents me from entering safe mode among other things. I was able to uninstall crimson and the problem went away, and 16.7.2 works fine. This problem persisted even after a win 10 system restore.

My system:

i5 2500k

AsRock z68 Extreme3 Gen3

8Gb DDR3

XFX 280x crossfire

Edit: I noticed now that I have 16.7.3 installed and working, though it's not 16.7.3 (WHQL). I must have activated auto update or something. It's the (WHQL) version that's not working.
