By the way the entry on the fix for the coloured screen is wrong and misleading, come on AMD you know this is not correct.
"A random blank or colored screen may be experienced intermittently on some Radeon RX 400 series products while gaming."
Majority of report show this as an idling problem....this may suggest to your customers that the black screen at idling is not fixed....which is it ?!!????
I don't do gaming....and had the problem many times per day until I used clock blocker.
OK been running with 16.8.3 all day ...no black or any colourd screen. Went out for an hour or so put so put PC in sleep mode.
When PC was taken out of sleep mode GPU was in 100% load. SO that is not fixed.

No blackscreens today until now. Shall I allow me to be a little optimistic?
I just built my first PC a few weeks ago and have been experiencing the issues you fine folks are talking about here. The screen on my computer will just randomly go black (sometimes white) and the cursor disappears. It only seems to occur while I'm doing light internet browsing and has never happened while I am gaming. I can game for hours with no problems, but if I quit gaming and start browsing online it will eventually give me the black screen. I have also stress tested my CPU and GPU for ~12 hours (to check temps) and done a few sweeps on a memtest and had no problems at all.
The black screens only happen while the computer is relatively idle

Following along with the thread here I've just updated from 16.8.2 to the latest 16.8.3 driver and am testing it out now. I am actually very surprised that I have had enough time to create an account and make this post without it cutting out on me... fingers crossed that 16.8.3 did the trick!
I just wanted to make this post to add another "me too!" to the issue discussion. Will keep you posted if I experience the issue again.
The new driver 16.8.3 didnt prevent my black screens. It did reduce the time before it occurred, but after 20 minutes or so the black screen would still hit. I'm thinking perhaps my issue is different since using clockblocker didnt help, so I will RMA my card.
well i haven't had any colored screens while idled (or gaming, but never did) with the new drivers. looks like they fixed it.
but now, even now and then, I am having the 100% gpu load at boot up.
since this thread was geared towards the colored screens, i'm going to create a new one about the 100% gpu load at startup and resuming from sleep.
someone beat me to it. lets focus this issue in this thread:
I too get 100% GPU load especially after I put the PC into sleep mode. I suspect the driver needs to mature and we have to wait for updates. I am desperate for the H.264 DXVA HW acceleration to be fixed which you can follow via this thread.... this is a strange one as the UHD (4K mode) DXVA works but not the HD.
I'm glad I put my 480 in my backup rig and put a gtx1080 in my gaming rig.. I havent had one issue with the nvidia card, get the cursor glitch with the 480 and wattman still crashes after closing a game or benchmark and trying to open wattman.
fps120 said: "My problem could be caused by a faulty power supply. I'm rmaing it and will report back after testing with the new PSU."
Ok, replaced my psu and I'm still getting the random black screens on my r9 390. So it is either a defective gpu or the driver doing this.
Updated to the new driver posted to.
Have you tried the new driver 16..8.3 ?
OK no more coloured screens as yet, but I am getting a whole raft of strange things happening since installing 16.8.3
Browser laying dormant in the banground suddenly become the main window.
Firefox flashing quickly off and on, eventually stops and back to normal.
This morning first boot, no browser or any microsoft product would launch. Anything else worked (GPUZ, spotify, itunes )
Next time I launched excel after a reboot it would only run in safe mode.
Anyone else having these strange problems since 16.8.3
