I cant get my graphics card to install on new motherboard

my mother board went bad on me so i had to buy a new one i ended up getting a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 everything went fine except when i went to use my graphics card (Powercolor HD 7870 Vortex II) i couldn't get it to work. i read that sometimes you need to reinstall it when you change a motherboard out so thats what i did but i still cant get it to work. i used the removal tool from AMD to uninstall everything and then downloaded the proper driver for my card but when i hooked it up it still wont work. i made sure the bios on the new motherboard was also set to use the PCI slot as the main graphics. As far as i can tell it should work but i get nothing. im trying to hook it up using HDMI i dont know if that makes any difference or not but i dont have a DVI  to test that with. any suggestions would be helpful.
