I installed the new CodeXL, and in the CodeXL Options Analyze tab I see the message:
"Note: the installed OpenCL runtime is older than 6 months. Recent hardware platforms may not appear in the list of target devices."
Indeed, I can only get stats for older chips.
I've just installed Catalyst 14.9, and it didn't help.
I'm using a Radeon R9 280 on Windows 7 x64.

Hi,
Thanks for this report.
CodeXL's detection of the installed OpenCL runtime version was mistakenly dependent on the local OpenGL library. This will be fixed in the upcoming CodeXL release.
By the way, I recently replaced the R9 280 with a 5850 just to test something, and I think that my OpenCL performance got slower afterwards (when I returned to the R9 280). It's hard to tell if that's really the case, there are many other variables involved, but it's the impression I got. Still, if that caused a change to the runtime, wouldn't installing new driver sort it out?
Can you please provide the clinfo output? (run "clinfo" in cmd)
Here's the full clinfo text (is there a way to post it without formatting?). By the way, testing performance again with old code, it looks like there's no problem except for a very minor slowdown between 14.7 and 14.9

I have the exact same problem.
I have an R9 290 + Windows 8.1 + Visual Studio 2013 Update 3 + CodeXL 1.5 + Catalyst 14.4 (tried with 14.9 as well) configuration, and I see the same warning in CodeXL configuration, and can only select the CPU for analysis.
I don't have another Radeon graphics to try; I switched from a GeForce to Radeon because of the supposedly better OpenCL tool support (what is sadly not a big requirement)..
I cannot find any download link to old versions of CodeXL, so I cannot test if it is a bug just in the newest version.
Is there any known workaround?
My clinfo output is this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5clvbTTjpCDVUc3eERVY1B5VzQ/view?usp=sharing
Retested with the new Catalyst driver released today. Same thing. CodeXL is still unusable for kernel analysis.
I have the same issue on Ubuntu 14.10 and solved it. I got the following error on console when starting CodeXL:
Assertion failure (Failed to load module. OS error is: /usr/lib32/fglrx/dri/../libGL.so.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32. Module = l) osLoadModule /data/jenkins/workspace/CodeXL-1.6-Linux/release/CodeXL/1.6/CommonProjects/AMDTOSWrappers/src/linux/osModule.cpp line: 62
It seems the dynamic library loader in CodeXL cannot find proper OpenGL library. The fglrx OpenGL library is at /usr/lib/fglrx/ on my system.
As a workaround, I did:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
and then CodeXL is happy to analyze my code.
Hi,
Thanks for this report.
