interested in AHCI driver for a SSD

There latest driver from the AMD site is "12-4_vista_win7_32-64_sb" which I have already downloaded. I would like to install the AHCI driver but the driver software is in .exe obviously it has a few drivers. In the past I can just insert an inf file before Windows installation. How do I install the most current chipset or insert the chipset in the Windows 7 before the actual Windows installation? My main interest is the AHCI driver. Thank you.

Mobo is ECS A880LM-M v1.0

SSD is Intel 330 120GB

When you run the installer, it extracts the files into a folder. You will obviously have to open it on another machine, you can put the files to a usb stick or write to CD. For example the location would be something like: C:\AMD\Support\12-2_vista_win7_32-64_sb\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\SB7xx\AHCI\W764A   (I would put the whole folder anyway)

Your motherboard manufacturer probably supplied a CD with the drivers also? (I think you should be able to browse it at installation as well?) If the CD has older version, you can upgrade after installation?

You can also enable it after installation, google for "Enabling AHCI mode AFTER Windows 7 Installation"

Since you haven't gotten any replies yet here on the software developers forum, try contacting AMD support either by email (http://emailcustomercare.amd.com/) or by phone (http://support.amd.com/us/contacts/Pages/global-technical-support.aspx)

Good luck!

I have spend many days. have tried everything including "Enabling AHCI mode AFTER Windows 7 Installation" method if you will. ECS mobos and Intel 330 ssds are not compatible.

Did you also try:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/ECS-A880LM-M-V1-AMD-SATA-AHCI-Preinstall-Driver-121197-for...

There is in ECS site also in downloads at utility section ahci floppy driver...(I am not sure if it is the same thing, I couldnt find the file in softpedia at ECS site, yet softpedia download location goes to ECS.)

I think that is the same driver version that is being offer on the ECS support site. I will check the version when I get home. The newer driver on the AMD website make the intel 330 ssd not detectable. You just can't see the ssd at all. When older driver was installed before the Win7 where it says "load driver". It did not work. No matter what I was doing I got an error message that says "windows cannot be installed to this disk. this computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk". The same error message without installing any driver. To make long story short, I works flawlessly in IDE mode installation. I then went ahead to change in the regedit to AHCI mode "msahci" value 3 to 0 and continue to change in the BIOS. It did not boot up but it boots up fine when I changed back to IDE mode.

Just for the kicks, I would go and try a linux distribution from a usb stick or cd (I am not suggesting that you use Linux, just for testing). Here are some instructions:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-ubuntu-desktop

If it find your hard drive, then you can be sure that the problem is somewhere else. If it also doesnt find the drive in AHCI mode, then I dont know what to say You could perhaps contact ECS for support?

I may try Linux. Thank you.

This is the message from ECS.

We are unable to duplicate such an issue with the Intel 330 SSD.

When searching the internet this does seem to be a common problem, not relegated to any one specific piece of hardware.  Though this issue does not seem to be resolved by a common solution.

We will continue to look for a solution.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

They might be making it up. I have seen companies telling stuff is A OK without even bothering to check. I have found this...:

Actually there are several entries with "windows cant be installed intel 330" if you google for it.

I really appreciate your help. It looks like intel 330 is not the only one. intel 520 is a problem as well.
