Possible overheating problem on HD3870

A lot of our users are experiencing driver resets after a few minutes of gameplay.

Hi.

My name is Anton Stenmark and I'm working as lead programmer for the Arrowhead Game Studios game Magicka.

A lot of our users running HD3870 cards are experiencing driver resets after a few minutes of gameplay, resulting in a game crash.

What could cause a driver reset other than overheating?

What can we do to avoid a driver reset?

Feels silly to bump my own thread but we really need to resolve this issue.

After further investigation it seems as if the problem is video-RAM overheating on some cards.

Is there anyone who actually works for AMD who can at least confirm that they have seen this thread?

Hello,

We are currently developing a title which is able to overheat some of our machines using a HD4800.

We are currently considering implementing a temperature monitor and using readings from that to frame limit and activate vsync.

We have also reproduced this problem with one of the DX9 samples and FurMark.

On at least one card the idle temperature is 87c!

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
