Developers are working to add image support. I wont be able to comment on an exact timeline, but you can expect the support in one of the upcoming releases.

but it is undocumented and it can lead to undefined behaviour so it is only experimental.

but it will work only on 5xxx cards. and do not expect image or any other extension support for 4xxx. never.

Btw... would be possible to use a jumbo 1D texture? I basically want the same behaviour than CUDA, where I'm able to use a texture with 2^27 pixels of width if anough VRAM is available.
