Heading into Mobile World Congress (Feb. 24-27 in Barcelona, Spain), we’re excited about highlighting AMD innovation on the world’s foremost tech mobility stage.  As part of our preparation for MWC, we put together a featured list of our YouTube videos, and included our new DockPort video to this list. In an overwhelming show of support for this technology, this video received over 30,000 views in its first week on YouTube and garnered several media stories underscoring the tremendous potential of this concept.

DockPort is an AMD idea which utilizes DisplayPort with a DockPort extension to enable video, data and power over one connector. This technology was recently adopted by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) to be added as an official extension to the existing DisplayPort standard.  It has also been implemented by Texas Instruments in their DockPort controller.

DockPort is an integral part of our 2014 CES Innovation Award-winning “Discovery Project,” which showcases our new low-power APU codenamed “Mullins” in a high-performance table, gaming cradle and dock. The “Discovery Project” is a proof-of-concept design demonstrating AMD’s capability to bring rich media experiences to small form factor devices. Streaming and sharing rich media being central to “Discovery Project” means that connectivity to the outside world is critical. DockPort allows easy connection to multiple external devices while optimizing portability.

DockPort is just one example of AMD’s philosophy of innovation and open standards. AMD’s founding of the Heterogeneous Systems Architecture Foundation (HSA Foundation) underscores our commitment to providing developers with powerful programming tools. AMD’s open ecosystem approach to security enables users to be secure, while benefitting from ongoing innovation in the security community. AMD is committed to pioneering the technologies that will enable people to push the limits of what’s possible. If you are in Barcelona, come by and see what the “Discovery Project” and DockPort can do at AMD’s booth at Mobile World Congress, Hall 5, Stand 5J41.
